I agree..

Rice will never go to waste.. so a good idea as prizes for the contest.

Lets see what we can do that is best.. toys first for the kids, games and prizes as an addition to the fun and smiles.

And what ever is left if any will go to good use for the kids.

My wife suggested cloths instead of toys, although I agree in practical thought, Remembering when I was a kid.. Toys are what mattered.

My wife also suggested school supplies for some, and that is a good idea, but not now, maybe later with what is left over if anything.

You would be surprised how many Kids do not get to go to school even though the public schools free, because the parents sometime lack the funds to buy the school supplies like notebooks, pencils, and pens, ect.. that are required. (Only about $15 a school year)

Maybe when it is time again for the kids to enroll for classes, I will make sure the ones that need the supplies to go to school.. CAN GO!

Medial emergency's are another thing that may sometimes come up.

Spare rice, school supplies, and a medical fund sound like excellent ideas.

So we need to add another $200 to our total with the checks that I have received.

Tim - I will be sending you the cash shortly.

Thank you all for helping make these kids have an awesome Christmas.

Tim, make sure you have a Pilipino whole hog BBQ for Dixie when he comes. Damn, I'm hungry for lumpia and pandit right now.

The only thing I don't make from scratch (due to laziness) is the actual noodles. (I can get them fresh from the Asian market around here.) I think you'll like it.

Unfortunately, it's a two day process, primarily due to the resting period needed for the chashu, so I make a BIG batch. Therefore, I usually wait until I have a large audience. Maybe for the holidays. The chashu, alone, is an excellent meal, if you don't want to make the entire ramen recipe. [/temporary hijack]

Yes - And even when I spoke with Tim this morning he told me that he is saving the funds for the toys to the side and anything else is going towards helping those people in his village with rice, water, and chickens.

I have set aside enough for the toys, but have been spending the rest for Rice and food supplies for the people in our village.

Our village has been completely wiped out here, the roads were blocked for days and supplies have been hard to get.

I will be back tonight to catch up on everything here when I have access to a generator.

Update...

Hi Everyone,

I'm sorry for being so slow to update things, as it has been pretty hectic around here with everything going on, and not much internet time.

The Christmas fund total collected is now is $2823.60

And the grand total from both threads collected is $4343.60

As you know I have spent some of the funds buying rice and food and helping the people in the village during the days right after the Typhoon.

There has been quite a bit more donated in the other thread and we will be using that part as a rebuilding fund for those that really need the help.

We can't help them all, so those who cannot rebuild on their own will be the ones we try to help and build huts for with what is left after getting the toys for 400 kids..

So we have $1625 Left in the toy fund, that came in this thread and I will start the shopping in the next few days.

We have also collected $1520 more in the other thread since then...

So we now have $3145 cash left in the fund.

For the future I will keep the totals as just one fund, but wanted to let everyone know how it all came in.

I want to say Thank You! To each and every one of you ! and making this possible.

I borrowed the little Village Multi-cab truck yesterday and made a first run on the store here on the island over in town that has toys.

I lost track of the total count, so will have to get everything out of the boxes and re-count, but guessing about 250 toys for boys, and over 100 to 150 for girls so far.

They tell me there are more boys than girls here in our village, but I can only guess.

I am afraid that we will run out, and hate to send a kid away and tell one we have no more.

So bought a lot of cheaper stuff, and will buy over what we planned so we know we have enough.

We can always make more smiles by driving to another village, or save some for next year.

I started with some of the cheap toy cars and worked my way down the isle wiping complete shelf's of inventory out, and worked up to some of the nicer boys toy stuff, then we bought out all of the small stuffed animals they had in stock also for toddlers and babies.

Started on the girls and bought every single barbie type doll they had.
(Spence is going to be jealous)

And bought every baby doll they had, cook sets, and other assorted toys that will work for the girls.

They have no more girls toys in stock, but will have more in a few weeks they said..... so I told them.

"I'll be back"

Also found another store that has some girls toys, but I was out of cash for the day and can only get 20,000 per day from an ATM.

We spent about 35,000P after our discount (about $833) Estimate as I don't have any of the papers with me here tonight.

It took them over an hour to sort it out and make a total..

That was FUN!

Anything that is on the floor in the photos below we bought, and lots lots more..

Outstanding!

You and Dixie are going to make the kids' Christmas one that they will remember for a long, long time.

I fully support your using some of the money to provide the necessities of life to your village from the money that was previously collected for the kids. I feel confident that should you begin to run short we can collectively replenish the coffers.

And, one other person who is enjoying your shopping trip is the manager of the store where you are buying the toys. One question, how are you going to smuggle them back to your village and hide them until Christmas?
