I don't even know the name of any current Ford car other than the Mustang. I guess their money is made with the truck line.

In other news, Toyota announced they’re spending $170 million to expand the Corolla Plant in Mississippi. That way they can shift some of the Corolla production away from the Rav4 plant in Ontario. Since they only sold 329,000 Corollas here last year, they’re obviously missing something. Or Ford is.

You can guess which of the two I think is right.

Our short term memory as a nation really sucks.
The problem is there is little or no profit in the economy cars built by Ford and GM. They only built them to make sure they could hit the higher gas mileage requirements foisted on them by the government.

Even during time of high gas price they made great profits on thier trucks and SUV's.

It's way past time for the federal government to get out of the micromanaging of the auto industry and let them do what they think is best for them and their customers. If they make the right choice they win, if not They lose. Economic Darwinism works.

The problem is that will never happen. The government will ALWAYS be a threat to the car business.

I really think Ford will change their minds on this latest plan. For one, the dealers will be up in arms over no cars to sell. Sure, they make more on trucks and big SUV's, but they have seen many times how fast that market dries up when gas prices go up a couple of cents. Never underestimate the herd mentality of the buying public. Also, all this hybrid stuff is highly overrated at this point. We may get there someday, but for today and the next few years, it is a complex gimmick. Electric? Forget about it. It's a long ways off, if ever, to be viable for everyone.

Government is a threat to ALL business.

While we have someone in office who understands this Maybe Ford can make enough while he's still in office to weather any on coming storms.

It's Their money. The stock market likes the idea. I would like to see GM follow suit in the near future.

Unless I missed something, aren't CAFE standards set to jump again in the near future?
I don't see any automaker getting the average using only trucks and a sporty car. profits will shrink dramatically if Ford has to pay fines for gas guzzlers.

Not like it is to the car business. CAFE standards, safety regulations are two standouts.

Impossible. As soon as we get a President Cory Booker or President Kamala Harris or any of the other leftists that hate us having nice things, it will all go out the window.

I happen to have Ford stock, so it's also MY money. Mark my words: It's a bad idea.

I wonder if they're also going to axe the Continental and MKZ (built on the same platform as the Taurus/Fusion) or if there's enough margin in the "premium" lincoln brand.
