I lost my brother
And a best friend.
Tim was the closest to me in age. We were a year and a half apart, him younger. He would have been fifty nine on 27 November. The best guy you could ever know. We weren't close after our teenage years, not much in common and saw each other every couple of months and holidays. Tim was big into sports, myself more into cars and gals. He didn't drink, smoke or do any drugs. As for me, well I really enjoyed myself. A few years ago we got to talking about watching The Walking Dead and he started coming over every week to watch and we developed a close bond again. We talked almost daily and got together at least once or twice a week. Some friends of ours from high school have gatherings every few months and be began coming to those as well. My phone regularly notified me of memes and jokes he was sending many times times day. He was the best man at my wedding last month. Pics attached are from then. Tim worked two jobs most of his life to support his wife and kids. He had five children and thirteen grandchildren (and one due last week of December). He lost his wife of forty one years Jan 11. She had been in the hospital almost a year and because of covid he hadn't been allowed to see her, only talk on the phone. The family was told if she got the vaccine they could begin visits. She passed five days after getting the vaccine and he blamed himself because the final decision was his. He has been very lonely since her loss and hated living alone. This last year his health had been declining some. Early symptoms of Parkinson's had manifested and was confirmed. There were periods he would suffer memory loss and couldn't remember things. He had an accident back in July and couldn't remember any details at all immediately before or after the wreck. An EEG a couple of weeks ago showed some abnormalities and evidence of possible seizures. My niece found a letter in his apartment dated Oct 18 saying he shouldn't be driving until further tests scheduled for next week and evidence of a possible mass on the lower right side of his brain. He hadn't told anyone about that but it would explain all his health issues. Last Thursday morning (Nov 11) my niece called me at 8:21 am to tell me that her father lost his life in an auto accident on his way to work. Seems his vehicle failed to make a sweeping left turn, drove straight off the shoulder and sidewiped a guard rail on the right side, crossed the road and struck a tree on the embankment on the other side. No skid marks. He was wearing a seat belt but struck the steering wheel breaking his nose and neck. EMTs said he likely died on impact. We believe he had another seizure that caused the accident. It would appear at least he didn't suffer. He was my first brother and first best friend. I loved him dearly and will miss him every day for the rest of my life. Rest easy, little brother. |

I can't even begin to understand your grief. You and your family are in my prayers. Take solace in the fact that you were able to rebond with him as many don't avail themselves of the opportunity, and you certainly did.

I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my brother back in June from a too-late
discovery of cancer. I miss him dearly. Every day. Sounds like you had a really good relationship together. Give thanks for the rich history of memories he left with you. Prayers that you find comfort through all of this.
