One dead and one sent to the hospital from a gun loaded with blanks? "Misfire" implies the gun shot itself due to some failure of the equipment. I wouldn't bet money on that.

Blanks can still injure or kill someone, unlikely unless right on them.
Perhaps they used a stronger blank round.
Then again wouldn't be the first time a prop gun had live rounds in it.

Haven't read anything indicating real bullets were involved. Regardless, if he pulled the trigger he's responsible, that's no "misfire".

I suspect this will turn out to be a similar situation to how Brandon Lee was killed on set.

In that case the movie had gone over schedule by more than a week, and they had been working very long days (13-14 hours) to get it finished. The armorer stayed on as long as he could, but eventually had to leave to go work on another project. Since they were done with all of the shots that required lots of weapons and gunfire, they decided that the prop master could handle the armorer's job in his absence.

The revolver that killed Brandon Lee had been used the day before for a closeup looking "down the barrel", so it had been loaded with dummy rounds because they could be seen by the camera in the chambers of the cylinder from the front. After the long day of filming the prop master unloaded the dummy cartridges from the cylinder and stored the weapon, not noticing that one of the bullets had dislodged from one of the dummy rounds and was still in the cylinder.
The next day they had to pick up a shot of another actor firing the same weapon at Brandon. The prop master loaded the weapon with blank rounds, still not noticing that the bullet from the dummy round was in the cylinder. The actor aimed the weapon directly at Brandon Lee and fired. After the director called "cut" Brandon didn't get up.

If the armorer had still been there it probably wouldn't have happened.
If the crew was not so fatigued due to the long hours it probably wouldn't have happened.
If the prop guy had properly checked the weapon when he unloaded it, it wouldn't have happened.
If the prop guy had properly checked the weapon when he loaded it, it wouldn't have happened.
If the actor had checked the weapon when it was handed to him (as he should have been taught by the armorer) it wouldn't have happened.
If the actor had aimed slightly off target (as he should have been taught by the armorer) it wouldn't have happened.

I know nothing about the victims, but it is possible that karma just did the trifecta. Maybe they were douchenozzles as well?

Making a movie with Baldwin makes that a distinct possibility.

I do genuinely feel bad that a dickweed took them out and I hope Baldwin is haunted by it forever.
