Default Can't WAIT until this year is over !

2013 has been the SUCK for my wife and for me. I can't wait until 2014.

Wife lost her mom
Her dad was diagnosed with cancer and had major surgery
I totaled the Corvette
Truck transmission went out.
After 7 YEARS in this house without a single, our dogs have fleas.
This week, after about 17 or so years, my band has imploded.
The band thing is tough to take right now. These guys have been like brothers and now friendships are on the line.

What a year.

Hang in there man.
I had that year, 3 years ago.
It'll get better with time.... Just take it day by day, and before you know it, it'll just seem like it was a bad dream, and you'll be fine.

For me it was 1993 as the el sucko year.

Parents got divorced after 33 years marriage.
Both my sisters got divorced.
My wife and I split up but just separated.
My place of work closed and I was lucky to still have a job as the transferred me to another plant across town and I had to essentially do three jobs.
I was fat and out of shape.

That was 1993. However, the following year was awesome.

Wife and I got back together, on good terms, and have been married now for 27 years and counting.
Got a new job that turned out to be the turning point in my career and led directly to my current awesome employment situation.
My wife went to an arts and crafts show and won a brand new pickup. Yeah, it was a stripped down Ford Ranger, but I traded it and my old POS truck and got a nice new Mazda B3000.
Finished the remodel of our old first house. Lot of work went into that.
I went from 270 lbs in 1993 to 188 in 1994, and worked out a bunch and got in great physical shape.

So, you may be on the threshold of a great year in 2014!

Can of worms officially opened.

Artistic differences I suppose. Although I don't think of myself as an artist.

We are a cover band. Have been since we formed in the 90s. I am a stickler for being true to the original. I alter my voice and do all I can to make myself sound like the original artist. Our guitarists worked hard at getting the signature parts and sounds down. We focused on harmonies and really did our homework. Since our inception, the band has done this. About three years ago there was a shift in power and three of us that wanted to emulate the original versions, became only two and (in my opinion only) members started getting lazy and instead of learning the music and committing to the difficult parts, they began taking shortcuts and trying to put their own spin on songs.
I am ok with changing a song WITH the condition that it be a complete make-over. If it's done in the name of creativity, I am all for it. If it's done because you're just not interested in working through a rough spot, that's a problem for me. A prime example is Linda Ronstadt's "You're No Good" and the Van Halen version. Very creative, very original. If all you're going to do is tweak it because you're too lazy to learn it, I'm not on board with that.
Over the last few years we have managed to carry on in spite of the differences of opinion regarding how we cover music. It all finally blew up this past week and our guitar player quit. That started a domino effect and the drummer followed.

We repeatedly were told we were the biggest draw at one bar. We have fellow musicians compliment us on our abilities. We have bar owners tell us we are the first or second highest money maker for them. What we did worked. Why anyone wants to take Classic Coke and make New Coke is beyond me. Do what you do well. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

So now I am a singer without a band. I am using some networking to see if something can be pulled together, but I am not necessarily an outgoing person so auditioning to strangers will be tough. That and the fact that these guys became like brothers. You get used to all the cues and looking over to the right or left and seeing your friends share an awesome moment. It will be difficult to try to create that again.
