Real Football (soccer)

My late son was a really big "Football" fan....he loved Manchester City (Man City).....I don't watch sports but I am thinking of watching this team in his honor and to feel maybe I'll be with him.
Anyone here into this sport at all ?

MC is a beast, big money, big stars, much better than their crosstown rival Man Utd.

MC has stars, Haaland is the biggest, very physical, very committed, best player in the world, by a big margin

MC is currently five points off top of table, but has a game in hand, they will be #1 season's end--you heard it here first.

MC also in The Champion's League, Europe's 32 team elite tourney, most prestigious team competition in the world, they won it last year, they will win it again this year.

MC is not my team, Soton Saints are, but I follow MC, as Haaland is the easily the very best athlete on the planet, and he gives 100% every game---rumor has it when his soccer days are done, he is joining the PGA Tour.

Played for many years, my father was an MLS and collegiate official and I traveled to many games with him growing up. Not a big fan of the premier or champion's leagues in Europe but I'll watch it if it's on. German leagues are fun to watch but I prefer MLS here in the states.

Simple, at time of pass, not at time of next touch, the team in possession can not have a player further upfield than a defender.

euro fans attend games to discuss tattoos and missed dental works, the on-field play is a distraction.

My kid is a senior in high school and played school and travel soccer since he was 4. Will not play in college and has zero interest. Kept him out of trouble, built great friendships, and kept him in shape. Many parents at games are complete arseholes and behave like pigs. You could not pay me enough to ref a game with the entitled shitpile parents. The women were usually the worst. Been to games where the ref cleared the benches and told parents to sit in their cars or game would be canceled.


I can understand why mainstream is a bit of a failure with all the flopping and theatrics with almost no scoring. Being European it’s in DNA, but I empathize with the boredom.

I played for about 15 years, then was asked to try out for the USMC team but got orders elsewhere.

A buddy I grew up with, his dad was from england and played on a team over there. They ended up moving back, he tried out and got selected. Said it was the toughest time ever, being an American and taking a slot away from a brit didn't go over well.

I used to watch it a lot but the flopping has gotten way out of control. Hell of a game to play, gets you in great shape.

I was a goal keeper in a very highly rated industrial league until I was 31 for a major aircraft component manufacturer. It was amazing how seriously they took it, if we needed talent they would transfer folks in from abroad for the season. Our coach was on assignment in the states from England during our season, totally nuts.
