Another tradesperson. I only own 2 pieces of jewelry... my wedding band which lives in her jewelry box... and I still have all 10 digits... and a pocket watch I found as a youth which my maternal grandmother (who worked for a jeweler) had restored and engraved with my initials. Never saw the need for "enhancements" of any sort since I married well and worked at a job I loved... and made a living wage while I was there. Proof enough of "a life well lived".

Wedding ring, a tiger eye on the right hand my maternal grandmother gave me around 1980, and a watch. I have half a dozen or so watches and rotate them out.

I've bought the wife some expensive jewelry over our 55 years together including a pricey black pearl cocktail necklace and a stunning tanzanite (the real stuff) ring to name a few. The kind of stuff you put on an insurance rider.

They are never worn, she's afraid to take them on cruises and thinks they are over-dressing for evenings out in rural Florida. They lay around in the safe, maybe the daughter or her daughter will wear them or sell them some day. I won't buy any more jewelry for her at any rate.

As far as me wearing a 5-digit Rolex ? Talk about "putting lipstick on the pig"...

My BIL used to wear some super expensive Rolex as his every day watch. That is, until a couple of Latino dudes pointed a pistol in his face and demanded he hand it over. He did.

Rare case. Literally, millions of men around the world strap super expensive watches on the wrists, their entire lives without ever having a problem. Women walk around with engagement rings with a diamond more valuables than watches.

Rolex statistics have shown to be a better investment than the stock market, some double or triple retail price. Rolex just introduced a watch called Lehman 50,000 retail selling for over a quarter of 1 million. They truly are great investments. My white gold Daytona sits in the safe, never worn once. My retirement portfolio is quite diverse the lefty I wear daily is close to triple.

I’m just amazed at the size of the machine itself they amaze me
