Default Covid-19, At what point do you just hunker down?

I run a retail store that is allowed to stay open for business during the mandatory citywide shutdown.

I modified the hours to just 11-5.
Today we had a ton of panicked customers freaking out and breathing on me because all the gyms closed.

I guess I’m getting really paranoid because as I sit here, I’m feeling flu-ish.

Not sure If I should “F” it and close the damn place down.

I’m living my life and not letting fear rule it. YMMV.

Yes, but do you have 50 mouth breathers talking next to you a day?

I had Epstein Barr virus in 2016 and was sick as hell for 2 months.
I don’t want that again.
I uncontrollably shivered in bed until every muscle in body hurt from a high fever.

Going to work for more money is not worth it.

Well, in my county it's right now.

The County Public Health Office just put out a shelter in place order. Basically stay home with the exception of a list of activities that pretty much covers everything I would normally do. Get gas, grocery shopping go to the doctor, pharmacy, etc.

I thought this was coming, so I've got everything we need for awhile. The order takes effect at midnight tomorrow, so everyone will probably go crazy at the stores tomorrow, but I was able to beat the rush.

In all fairness, it is easier to do here than in some places where the state or local government has gone total wackadoodle

My wife recently had her 40 year anniversary since being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
She has also been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Both of us work in a retail setting and interact with folk from who knows where who have been to (or visited from) who knows where. We are maintaining a respectful distance from each other, but neither of our bosses will condone self isolation until we present with a fever. We cannot "close"; but if we were self employed or were able to work from home we damned sure would be out for the duration.

Thank you. Now you might understand why my view of this novel virus has been "doom and gloom" since it first surfaced. People with autoimmune disorders or otherwise compromised immune systems are at serious risk from this bug and I love my wife... and hope to spend another 30 years together. Help us all please and take things seriously as the drama unfolds.

My job hasn’t closed...but they made sure that we were set up to work from home. However, they haven’t given us the green light. My wife is at home til 4/12 though.

I find that in times like this, it speaks volumes to how an employer values their employees...

I don't know what kind of retail store O/P runs. If you close, will they loot? Do you care at this point? For a while now, you have been frustrated with that business, this may be your chance to close up shop and protect yourself, if finances allow.

As for us, we are open for business, but being very cautious. My guys mostly work in machine rooms or on rooftops, so contact with people is limited. We had a situation the other night whereby an inhouse electrician was doing some "maintenance work" rewiring a light or fan, not sure. Somehow he grounded a 480 volt, 1200 amp circuit and blew the main. This was a cold storage place with millions in food in storage at minus 20. I had no choice but to send mechanics out.

We provide water and wastewater so we are open. We are seeing a run on pumps kind of like toilet paper. I've told our customers we are stocked up with more coming in so don't panic.

We've sent everyone home that we can... corporate staff who can work from home and we've grounded all salespeople at home... "work the phones!".

I am in the office. Our local branch is just down the street and it's important to me they see my truck every morning at Corporate as they drive to the branch.

This is ****ing insane!

I am home to telework and just avoid any unnecessary trips.

Wife has to work and so does the son.

All is good though.

All they did here in our area of Jax and Clay County was close the schools, colleges, bars and clubs. Not much else changed and the closures currently in place won't make a damn bit of difference, IMO. Hell, many of the bars are refusing to close especially when restaurants are staying open and people are still in close proximity to each other.
