That's pretty much what it looked like in the path of totality.

Actually beautiful! That looks like a KC-130 tanker.

It is a beautiful image but it's seriously photoshopped.
This stage of the eclipse is called the "Diamond Ring" and it requires a shutter speed of around 1/250th of a second at f5.6. At 1/250 of a second, I'm pretty sure you are going to capture a star field in the background with that exposure. The "Prominences", or red "ring of fire" around the sun is usually only seen during the full totality stage. The exposure required during the 'ring stage' isn't long enough to capture it with that detail. The shadows and highlights on the clouds don't even match the sun's location. Finally to get an image of the sun that large in the frame would take a huge lens. I shot it with a 600mm lens and even with a 100% crop it wasn't that large. Guessing this was shot with a telescope. Nice chop though. |

Sorry... one of the pitfalls of being a hobbyist photographer; one who struggled a good deal shooting the eclipse. I should probably have just hit "next post."
It is a nice chop save for the cloud shadows though. Would look really pretty on the wall. |
