New Workshop - progress, finally
they spent the last week or so bringing good fill, compacting it, leveling it, and today they are digging the footers. they may look shallow, but the footers will be 24" tall, the pad is 19" thick, with rebar top and bottom of pad. they'll backfill against the foundation once the forms are removed for thermal insulation protection. about 50 yards of concrete are planned.
view from NW corner. hmmm....can't post pic....BRB... |

Ship's Log, Star Date 24.102.39
It has been over 9,000,000 orbits of the third planet in the Sol system since all life was extinguished during the Hax invasion of 2194. 64 symmetrically placed antimatter planet busters were placed precisely by the Hax AI, at a precisely determined altitude of 6000 meters above sea level. The entire planet was scoured with the heat of the center of a sun. Our current survey has found few remaining structures from that time. There is some remains of what was a bunker of some sort in the mountains of what used to be North America. It was some sort of nuclear weapon command center, its name lost in the mists of time. A similar sort of remains was found in the steppes of what was known as Asia in those times. Interestingly, in the southwest corner of the North American landmass, there is a small rectangular structure approximately 0.5 meters thick, purpose unknown. |

I don't see the plumbing for the wet bar. There will be a wet bar, right?

Footers, sure. But 19" of slab? OK, I promise not to mention this again DAB. It's just incredible to me. I think my slab is 6" with 8" in the garage. Footers are substantial though. We actually freeze/thaw here too.

I will never see the need for a 19" slab.

In article <[email protected]>, [email protected] (Philip Papadopoulos) writes:
> How thick is the average concrete runway that is capable of handling > "heavies" (e.g. 747,767, MD-11, L1011, AB300, etc.)? The stress imparted to a runway is a function of, among others, strut load, number of tires per strut, tire spacing, tire size, and even tire pressure. Here are some numbers from Lockheed's "Landing Gear Design Handbook" (1982): Aircraft Gross Weight Concrete Thickness at Static Load Type (lbs) for Unlimited Operation (in) 747 775000 12.8 C-5 769000 10.0 L1011 410000 11.9 C-141 316000 12.3 707 297000 11.3 see http://www.kls2.com/cgi-bin/arcfetch...chicago.com%3E |

Is the plan still for 25' x 50'? If so, I think a 19" thick slab is going to need a lot over 50 yds of concrete for just the slab, not counting the footings.
