Default Garage flooring?

I'm interested in what members of our fine community have done for their garage floor -- Racedeck? Professionally done epoxy? Porcelain tile?

Opinions?

I've been reading endless threads on other forums and I'm no closer to a conclusion than when I started.

If you have a working garage, one for use other than storage, a single color, (no specs) epoxy paint is the only way to go.

Snap together tiles can get a sour smell after awhile. Dirt, water, oils, etc get between the tiles. The only way to get them clean is to pull them up and clean each one individually then clean the floor a couple times a year.

Jacks and jack stands can cut into vinyl flooring.

Flecks or specs in painted floors make it hard to find a part if you drop them.

Solid, light colored epoxy. Mine has been down for 30+ years and has never peeled up. A lot of it is worn from years of use but never has lifted or peeled.

What kind of prep has to be done to make this a lasting application. I am willing to invest in a solid epoxy, but first signs of it failing and I'll be pretty pizzed. My floor is not spotless, but there have been no significant spills.

Consumer-grade epoxy blows. Don't bother.
I went with Armstrong VCT. Stuff is nearly indestructible.

I'll rent a skid steer or two, and hire an operator.
A good operator should have it jacked out, removed, and stoned in a day..

Looks very nice!

I wonder how well a floor paint would hold up to having jacks dragged around on it a lot.

I was leaning towards racedeck, but how does the commercial VCT handle moisture? I'm in Illinois, so we'll have snow/salt mix falling off the cars. Is it slippery? Do you think the salt will discolor the tile?

I wanted to re-do the floor in my Orlando garage but, I wasn't convinced the oils/chemicals I used wouldn't have screwed up the finish. Tiles were out of the question due to concern over oil and fluids getting under the tiles.

Just plain commercial vinyl tile from Lowes and some Racedeck stuff for the lift area.

It has been great here in FL with all of the rain. I sealed it with ZEP Petroleum Resistant sealer (about 4 coats) then used the ZEP High Traffic Polish (anoth 4 coats). I reapply the polish every 4-6 weeks. Oil drips wipe up without a trace. Both cars need oil changes, so we will see how it reacts to jacks and jackstands. Will prob put something under the stands "just in case".

It's a bit slippery when wet. I just keep a floor squeegee handy.
Salt doesn't discolor as far as I can tell. Cleaning is easy. Toss snow into the garage and sweep it out with a floor broom. Follow with a squeegee. Does an amazing job. Wish I had snow around in the summer when I need to clean up.

What I've seen some ppl do is rough up the surface of the VCT and put a clear epoxy over it. Seems odd, but then you can add a grit to it for traction.
