There have been multiple reports of military planes arriving at Bagram airbase in Afghanistan, just hours after images emerged showing that power was restored to the base for the first time since US forces evacuated the stronghold in July.

Images circulating on social media appear to show the airbase's floodlights blazing in the distance, amid reports that several military planes have taken off and landed at the base in recent hours.

Several sources suggest that the aircraft are Chinese, given the Taliban are not thought to possess the expertise needed to power the base or maintain and fly several military aircraft.

It comes after Yun Sun, director of the China Program at the Stimson Center think tank, said China would likely be very interested in occupying the airbase following the US pullout.

US forces in Afghanistan abandoned their main base at Bagram airport overnight in July - shutting off the lights and slipping away into the night without telling government forces who were supposed to take it over.

If opening mines was as easy as it sounds, one wonders why the US didn't even try to do it in our 20 years there. It would have been a great works project to employ Afghans, to give them something productive to do besides war against each other and against us.

For once I agree with you. Had past president’s handled foreign affairs like President Trump we wouldn’t have been in all those useless wars with politicians holding back our military from doing what’s needed.

As much as I dislike the Bush’s, at least one Bush let Gen Schwarzkopf run the Iraq war to win and limit casualties. Biden’s handlers didn’t learn from history. Now China influence has expanded while America retreats and implodes from within.

Except that China has learned something, something we apparently did not, after Korea and Vietnam.

China goes into countries with it's "belt and road" proposal to both pay for and build infrastructure in other countries, as well as grease the palms of whoever needs to be paid off to get it done. And then those countries are indebted to China, and voila, China owns them, they're part of the empire, as it were.

They don't sent in tanks and planes to get what they want. The US doesn't even get what it wants when we send in tanks and planes. It's really crazy.
