Its still hanging on the wall and it works just fine. Of course it hardly gets used now. Its not that bad only takes a couple seconds more to dial out, and of course your tied to that about 4' cord!

I had one up until 2007, for the same reasons. If the power went out I could still use it -- however one time a tree took the power lines down, including the phone line. But that didn't usually happen.

I have a WH generator now, so don't worry about lines coming down or the power going out. Except if the Spectrum line went down then I would lose my land line. Not sure how that would affect cell with Wifi calling.

The one I ditched in 2007, as previously noted, was a dialer. I bought it in 1984 after living here for 2 years with no phone (nobody actually lived here before I did, and I didn't want a phone, but between the GF and my mom, I got voted down).

I didn't use the dialer much after around 1990 when I got a wireless phone.

Over 50 years old and the old ROTARY still works well! Its now mounted downstairs on the garage wall. It still dials out but a bit slower than the modern stuff.

Mine was a typical all black (Stromberg Carlson probably) bought new in '84. The only change I made to it was to put on a longer cord.

Remember NOT having caller ID, and how differently we answered the phone when it rang?

The best inventions of the modern generation:

Intermittent wipers
Online banking
Climate control in vehicles
And, of course, caller ID

We got ours in 1970 when we got married. Way back then you rented (AKA Leased). Had that one down stairs and a desk dialer in the living room

Somehow in the course of time the phone company said the phone was obsolete and would no longer lease it, or fix it and gave us the phone. I had called for service (the bell was broken) That was the period that the big phone monopoly was broken up!

Figured out a way to affro engineer the bell and the old phone just keeps on a working!

Yes, I remember when Ma Bell was broken up, by the Reagan admin I believe.
