Default What's a good way to sell a vette?

I think it's time to unload my C5Z, and move on and wanted to get some ideas on how to sell it. I've tried Craiglist before with 0 response on a different vehicle, my 4dr Jeep Rubicon on 37's. So wasn't sure about that.
I put it up on the other site, and have obviously caught nothing but grief over the price, buncha cheap bastiches over there!! Give some ideas, if any, as where to list this thing.
Here's my link to C5 fs section...

Cash!

Seriously, check Fleabay and the local papers and see what they are bringing in your area and surrounding markets. I used Fleabay and CL with pretty good success. Just be realistic, and be prepared to deal with idiots who either:
1) Don't have the money
2) Nothing but tire kickers
3) Want you to finance it
4) Will lowball you big time!

Good luck, dude.

It could be worse...
2003 Z06 Yellow 344 Original Miles - Corvette Forum

Your asking price is reasonable for a very nice and well-done car IMO, but then again I've seen and sat in it too (love those seats ).
You're attempting to attract an audience that knows nothing about it, only reads all the other ads and knows what others are asking for similar year/color/mileage cars. Mods mean shit in resale, in fact, can often hurt it. People are quite wary of modded cars, they want unmolested.

Seriously, shoot some videos (not too extreme), just show them all it has to offer, let them hear it roar, and let the drooling begin. Few people do this, and pics/description can only convey so much (not enough), and it doesn't take much to lose someone's interest. The ADD crowd loves video.

I think you can get 30 for it, you just have to captivate the rare one with 30 to spend. Make them love it.

I sold 2 Corvettes on the for sale section of www.corvetteforum.com

both within 24 hours of posting, I had a serious buyer.

I hear there are other parts of that site that are good as well.

I sold my 2008 Evo on CL in a week. The price was wholesale-ish and a used car dealer from Orange Co came down and took it away without haggling.

I'm not sure how I would screen customers for a Z06 though. I had a fun enough time trying to sell my C4 for $6500.

although not any Corvettes, but we've sold three vehicles on eBay. All to private buyers; and the transactions went smooth.

I'm looking through your parts list, and was nodding my head until I hit the NOS. People are really wary of any car that has run NOS (and for good reason, too many people **** it up when they use it and cook the motor sooner than they should).

Great advice. When I sold my '72 I had a guy drive all the way from Texas and buy the car, and most of it was based on the video I shot of the car. Started it up and did a walk around of it while running.

If you cars were not modded that's why. No big surprise.

too much info, read my responce.

Corvette Trader....national coverage, aimed at your exact market.

way overpriced as well, you never get the $$$ of modifications back, it's actually a drawback, scares away buyers.

there's an old formula on pricing modified cars...
Take the normal price the stock car would get and deduct how much it would take to put the car back to that! Lots of luck, you'll need it.

Good luck. With all those mods you are going to have to do a lot of advertising to get the price you are asking. Finding a buyer that wants all that you have is like trying to find a needle in a haystack since the book value of a 2003 is about half of what you are asking. There may be one or two in the entire world. For what you are asking, someone could get a car that is 5 years newer.

Yea, I can see where that would put people off, but they just need to ask. It's had 4 bottles ran thru it total. Plus it has all the supporting mods to be safe, window switch, WOT switch, purge, fuel pressure regulator, etc...

Guess I'll agree to disagree, there is plenty of folks out there that would buy 24k in mods for a nominal price.

Book value is 26k, so your opinion is null!!

Sick car but you just put way to much money into it IMO. One of your biggest issues is that most people that will see it and want it won't have the cash needed to buy it. What i mean by that is that a bank will lend what...$20k or so on a 9 year old C5Z? This means that a buyer will have to come out of pocket another $10k. Then when he talks to his insurance co, they are goning to have reservations as well due to the degree that its modded and he will have to get some kind of stated value policy etc.. Bunch of headaches and hurdles to deal with right off the bat.

If i were you i would demod it to a degree to recoup some money. Those seats will go quick in the parts section.

Thats your best bet IMO.

Once again. Sick Z.

Ya know, that's something I didn;t even think of when doing my original ad. I know about nitrous, and am knowledgable on the subject. It never occured to me that it would scare folks off.
I added some info on the ad, then again, I figured if someone was really interested they would ask, and I could explain to them then. It's only had 4 bottles ran thru it, and has every possible safety feature that can be had when running nitrous.
Nitrous is NO different than a supercharged car, nitrous is FI with a button. Why does everyone ooow and awww over a supercharged car that puts constant stress on a motor and runs like a girl from a nitrous car that RARELY puts FI stress on the motor?

A nitrous run, on the interstate, generally lasts for 6-8 seconds, running from 3rd thru 4th. That MIGHT be done a few times a summer, so let's generously say, 5x 8 seconds is 40 seconds a summer of an extra 150 hp on the motor that is tuned to do so, and still well within the means of safe.
Supercharged car running 10lbs of boost and pushing the limit... well, that motor never really gets a break except when idling.

As explained before, I don't know you. I have no clue how you ran it, how many times, how knowledgeable you are about the mods, etc...Your ad is a case of too much information for the average buyer. You are catering to a very limited group with your mods.

Exactly, why should anyone believe your story, would you if you were a buyer! NOX system to me means it's been raced or possible abused, and they're hard on the bottom end of motors. Plus, in many states and here in Canada, it's illegal and won't pass a safety inspection!

I agree with a lot of posts here. I would have slimmed down the original ad and then if people are interested, listed the specs.
I have run nitrous on my cars and I still wouldn't buy someone else's car with nitrous. If the car has damage from a part of the system failing, its imposiible to detect without tearing down the motor.
Personal mods are exactly that: personal. Your tastes may not appeal to everyone, which is why custom cars tend to sit for a while. A blue Z06 appeals to X percent of the car buying market and your car only appeals to a percentage of that, it has a very limited market and your mods appeal to a limited group of those people.
I really love the look of the car and think you did a great job but some people get scared by custom body panels and high dollar wheels that they may not be able to replace in case they get in an accident. We all know its a hell of a lot more common to spin a high HP vette into a curb than your 4cyl grocery getter. You need a very particular buyer, and that person is out there, so its going to take a lot longer to sell.
