Good morning. All's well with me. Still inconvenienced slightly by Monday's train derailement about 20 miles from Fort Knox, KY. where I work, but that's nothing compared to what others are going through in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.

Yesterday, two workers were severly burned following an explosion at the accident site. They were airlifted two a local hospital and remain in critical condition. You might have peeped the story on the national news. The fire is still burning...

Well isn't that just plain stupid....using a blowtorch around cars containing flammable contents that MIGHT be leaking.

Is she a candidate for a heart transplant?

Is she a candidate for a heart transplant?
She had an interview/examation with the Medical Director Heart Transplant Program Director, Transplatantation Cardiology, about a year ago.

She woud be on the 3rd. donor waiting list, which is the least serious recepients.

Our Health Plan would cover 80% of the procedure. Procedure is some where between $600,000, & 800,000.
There is no coverage for the cost of harvesting the donor heart. $98,000.00 give or take.

After care would run around 100,000.

Our health plan was billed If I remember, around 4500.00. for our first appointment. If we decided to go forward, the second appointment would be at the hospital for an 8 hour day. Cat Scan & other tests. A meeting with a the full transplant surgery team, a finance manger and others. I don't remember all of them. I estimated a $20,000 day.

Any way, we were afraid that our health care would be exhausted and we would be left with no coverage for her, not to mention there was no way to come up with the out of pocket costs. It was highly unlikely that she would ever be called.

They do have a great success rate. 89,90% I believe.

So we decided that it was probably not an option.

They mentioned more than once when I was in the hospital that if I didn't improve that I'd be a good candidate for a transplant.

My insurance is 50/50 for out of network stuff.

900k?

Tell you what doc, find me a job, and you'll get paid over the next 10 years.

my doc mentioned EECP as a possible option going forward.

link: EECP® Therapy | A Non-Invasive, Outpatient, Painless Treatment for Ischemic Heart Diseases

and,

non-invasive way to help the heart get stronger it appears.

Who the hell has that kind of scratch? I guess there's not a lot of transplants going on then.

Time to emigrate Douglas!...
