Default Parking truck in garage = $$$$$

Why is it so hard to find a garage that will fit a full size truck?

My current house has a two car garage. One side is 25' in length while the other side is 21' in length. The short side has a swing out door into the house, so you need a few feet clearance to open it. For this reason, I can only park my truck on the left side.

My current house is a cookie-cutter, 1,300 SQFT, entry level house. I can understand in a way having a smaller garage, but I've been looking at 3+ car, 2,200+ SQFT houses where the garage length is SMALLER!

It seems like once the house gets to about 3,000 SQFT, the garages start to get bigger. I guess I need to be a "ballah" to park both of my trucks in the garage.

Anyone else decided not to buy a house because the garage was to small? I've done it several times.

Yes.
I bought my current house specifically because of the garage. It has a 2100 sq. ft. garage that will easily fit my cc dually, 5 other cars, 6 quads and a host of other shit.

most people are not car enthusiasts

builders don't over build garages on spec homes because they don't get paid for it...the market gives the builder zero dollars for a garage over 20 x 20. hell, he hardly gets paid for a small garage.

if you find a smaller home w/ a large garage...the original owner paid the builder extra for it. And yes, a larger home 3000 sq ft or more has more room in the budget for a larger garage...and the market will support it.

the best way to get a home with the custom garage you want is to have the home built.

my new home that I'll start construction soon...will have a 24 x 26 garage attached to the main house...and a 26 x 36 detached garage/shop on the property.

I did look at a house that was 3,200sqft and a 5 car garage., unfortunately with no HOA the other homes were not something I wanted to live near by.

Unfortunately no, I'm in a cookie cutter neighborhood with a 2 car garage...I need a garage for the vette and a back yard for the dogs, so I settled with what I could afford. One day I'll have the garage I want.

I kinda of like having to park my truck outside, it means the vette and the bike get the whole garage and my fiancé can't expect a garage parking spot.

After the divorce, my house outside DC, had a very unusual garage and a nice concrete back yard, it was WONDERFUL!!!! loved that joint, wish I could levitate it to Florida, but here, the lots do not allow for putting on in, no room not deep enough...thing that killed the sale up there, the damn women looking out back and seeing 'NO GRASS, YEACHCH'......and kill the sale...

Hell, that was 15 years ago, no digital pix, sorry....but the main work by was 27' long, and enough wide that I could take both doors wide open on the GTO convertible, and have enough space to easy walk between them and the benches on either side....2' deep benches...it was a GREAT place...had heat and a/c in it too.....

My current (and first) house had enough garage space back when I had my CTS-V and the Explorer. Now that both of those are gone and I have a full size truck, I can BARELY fit it in the garage. The side that's opposite the door going into the house has a workbench built into it that takes up a couple of feet. Now, where I had plenty of room with the Caddy, I've got about 6" on either end of the truck. The next house I'm in (planning to build) will have at least a 3 car garage and be around 30' deep.

When we built our house I had a 25X25 attached garage built. We parked my 4 door Ford Dually and my wifes 2500 Suburban in it with room to walk around and close the door. Of course there is 3 garage doors in the 20X45 storage side of the basement and the 1800 sq ft. garage with wash pit, full bath, central heat and A/C. Yeah I was kinda anal about car storage. Anyone interested in buying the place??

I designed my new house with a 28w x30d 2 door garage under the house. I can easily get a full size 4x4 PU in either side if wanted. If necessary I can bring truck in and park even with a Fisher plow on it!

Next house I own will have a garage, period. I will either buy a house with a big garage or build one on to the house I buy. Vettes have long doors, so to get in and out comfortably, you really need a wider space. It will be a big garage.

After five years now of living in a hose with no garage, black vehices and about 14 pine trees...all on a .4 acre lot...

NEVER AGAIN.

Before we retired, had a cookie cutter home as well with a one car detached garage. Moved to DE and built a 40x40 garage, lovin' it.

Friend of mine has a nice small rancher on an acre, he wanted to put up a 30x30 garage but his subdivision in MD would only allow a 24x26 as the biggest. Had something to do with garage size in proportion to the house. He was quite disappointed, nevertheless, he still has a nice garage, just not a big as he wanted.

My subdivision didn't care about the size, just as long as it was 15' away from the property line.

I didn't think they were too bad until I moved in and started dealing with them. They are unreal.

Another thing I hate is the tandem 3 car garages. Yeah, it does allow a full size truck on the long side, but you still have the issue with it being to narrow. I also don't like that the driveway is only 2 cars in width. If someone parked in the street across from the driveway (which seems to happen a lot at my current house), it makes it tough to get in and out without driving on the grass.
