She should write back to the teacher: I don't know why only pen...pencil is an affective way to write a paper.

Make a copy of it, circle the word in red pen, & give her a 90% grade on the paper. Have your daughter leave it on the teacher's desk when nobody is looking.

We're all human and make mistakes, so I wouldn't do that.

However, if this same type mistake is repeated over and over by the teacher, I'd make it known to the administration for sure.

Pronunciation is also important. Many years ago, one of my brother's English teachers in high school was explaining how they'd be graded for the class. She said "Points are points, and they all add up." Only her pronunciation was "Pernts are pernts, and they all add up." Points was not the only word for which she butchered the pronunciation that year, either. Again, pretty sad for an "English" teacher!
