Dirt bike accident.
Landed on my tail bone, and for about 2-3 minutes, thought I was paralyzed. Intense pain for a couple of weeks, dull throb for a couple of months, and if I moved a certain way, intense stab of pain.

I have a SIL that has broken hers twice as an adult. Once on the stairs at about age 34 and once again ~43 missing that last step on a ladder and falling on her ass. It took her about a year to feel normal the first time and I think she still complains about it since the second incident. Sorry that might not be the best of news but eventually you will get better.

It is not so bad once I am sitting or standing, walking, but the process of standing up is painful. Getting out of the Vette makes my eyes water when I have to roll across my tailbone. It is maybe 25% better than when this happened 2 weeks ago.

Anyone else been through this? Everyone else that I have spoken to tells me stories of 3 months of intermittent discomfort.

Shattered my coccyx twenty years ago during a crotch rocket accident. It NEVER goes away. I take medication for the pain occasionally (Percocet) but it will eventually require surgery. My doctor has told me to bear it the best I can because the surgery and recovery is not pleasant and is tricky by nature. BTW, I am 43.

A horse is a lot higher up though, you should be good with a few Percocets a day.
Sounds like what happened to me. I was hit by a car and landed on the street just like I was sitting on the bike. I have had back problems from it ever since as well and this is the biggest problem. My ass is fine but my back is terrible.

That is a very good description. I can sit, but when I take the pressure off and try to stand it is terrible until I am upright again. I am into week 3...so coughing and sneezing does not hurt anymore.

The problem that I have is that I cannot discuss my problem in meetings, in court, etc...so I have to sit, stand, etc...without apparent discomfort...even though it is incredibly painful. Sometimes it makes me sweat it hurts so bad. Glad this is improving a bit every day.

Not certain

Seriously though...I was a bit concerned because I had some pain / discomfort in my left buttock area...I thought that it might be radiculopathy indicative of an L5/S1 disc herniation or nerve root compression. I was not sure because my experience with that sort of thing is purely academic. The real cause is that I have driven all over NC in the past few weeks for work. I hold most of the weight off my rear end, going over bumps, etc...by pushing down with my left leg. That is causing the left buttock pain. It is tender when I push in it...not constant nerve pain. Gets better when not driving / over the weekend, etc.

I declined. No tolerance for pain medicine.

It hurts a lot, but not so bad that I NEED medication. My job is mostly "sedentary." I am not a ditch digger or athlete...so I can get by during the recovery period.

So far...most depressing post (for me) in a long time. Damn. Not the first time that I have heard this.

I am encouraged that it is slowly getting better. I just want to get to the point where I can stand from a chair or the car without stabbing pain. Hoping for 4-6 weeks. If it goes beyond that...I will be frustrated.

I still have that same sensation when I strain to hard or lift the wrong way. The pain isn't bad sitting or standing but the in between is killer and walking is tough when that happens.

Yes, it is, and being a recovering addict is somewhat dicey. My doctor knows my past history and only prescribes me 30 Percocet every 120 days. That's only approximately two a week. They are the 10mg variety and they will flat out put you on your ass but if you have never experienced the type of pain this condition causes then you really haven't lived.
