Default Another Apple Product Frustration

A few months ago, Apple decided to discontinue support for the Apple Watch for customers with a iPhone X and older. I can no longer receive software updates for my watch until I buy a newer iPhone. This happens just after I replaced my iPhone battery!

Now, FF to a couple weeks ago when my FireTV remote suddenly stopped working with Apple TV. Besides the convenience of using one remote, the Apple TV remote is junk. I finally said screw it and stopped using Apple TV even though it has a better picture than the Fire TV.

The downfall is the Spectrum App is not available for Fire TV, so I have to jump from one App to another instead of just changing channels.

I am getting to the point of no return for purchasing any Apple products beyond the iPhone or iPad.

/end rant

crApple sucks and they do this type of stuff so you have to buy newer devices every couple of years... FROM THEM.

Let's make things easier. First, what kind of TV do you have? I have a Sammy smart tv and all apps are loaded directly to it.

so true. And they make proprietary operation, accessories, connectors, chargers in this 21st century world of compatibility.

The latest is inductive chargers; seems iPhones are "finicky" about universal wireless chargers. A lot of reports where when placed on non-Apple inductives... they stop charging after 30-60 seconds.

I have a home theater system so I want everything connected through my A/V receiver for surround sound. HDMI and CEC communications nicely ties everything together and keeps things simple using one remote control.

I will be playing with my Roku to see if it’s a good replacement for Apple TV. Hopefully the Fire TV remote can control Roku. Roku supports the Spectrum App.

Are you sure the Fire TV remote didn't stop working? If the remote is ok, on the Apple TV, go into settings > remotes and see if it's listed under remote app and devices. You may just need to relearn the remote.

All we use now are the new Apple remotes. Like them a lot better than the older touch pad remotes that came with my Apple TVs.

If you want frustration, try spending $3k on a remote setup that you can no longer use because the company closed their doors and no other dealers will touch it.

I despise all things Apple! However, we do have Apple TV because my wife wanted it. I just loaded the Apple TV app on our Samsung TV and it works perfeftly. No need for any of the shitty Apple hardware.

I did all the troubleshooting and checked settings. Fire TV remote still controllers all other devices. Postings on the Apple forum show many people having the same issue after the 17.4 update.

If you are talking about Logitech discontinuing the Harmony remote, that is why I switched to Fire TV as my Home Theater automation controller.

I've had a Roku for several years, no issues. The only drawback is, there's apparently no way to use an adblocker with Roku.

I had the good fortune of being in the first computer class at UMass to learn programming on Apple desktop computers. The prior semester was on dumb terminals using telephone modems to a main frame buried deep inside a building somewhere.

A few years after that Apple came up with the Mac. The company that I worked for offered free financing if you bought one, which I did. My next gig the company was all Mac.

AutoCad didn't run on a Mac, so when I started my own company I dove into the PC world. Learning Windoze and AutoCad at the same time sucked. But in the long run, abandoning Apple was a net plus for my career in many ways.

OP, for the most part, these apps can all be found working via the web, too. Easy solution is to get a dedicated PC, connect to your AV system, and get your content that way.

What I do for volume control is set my computer volume just a little more than 3/4 volume level with the AV volume turned all the way down.. From there, I will adjust the Av volume to a comfortable level using my keyboard (wireless of course). Too easy

Plus, you can get the interwebs and plenty of free places to watch movies and shows (old and new) without the ads

My first job in IT involved supporting a Mac token ring network. The CEO, my mentor, was a computer geek who pushed technology into the company. A magazine published an article about Lee Pharmaceuticals use of Apple computers. VisiCalc was the first spreadsheet program I worked with.

Back in the mid 80's some of the older guys had these suitcase computers with a tiny little screen. It had a heavy metal base and a three-sided cover, top-right-left, made out of a bent piece of aluminum. I think that Visi-calc was what they used.

I didn't discover spreadsheets until I got my Mac. Holy shit what a game changer. Prior to that I did everything on my HP-41C, and wrote the programs on little magnetic strips. HP had a software sharing service- give them one of yours and receive a credit for two from other contributors.

Going further back, late 70's the company I worked for had a Wang computer. All of the software was written by employees, or "borrowed" from guys that we knew. None of us understood the value of the software.

I have one of those small, expensive apple tv gismos on every TV (six) in the house.
I was told to buy them as it allows for ease when all the females in the household want to do a photo slide presentation.
Not sure why, but it is the first screen you go to when turning on the tv, it has all the apps there for yt tv and all the streaming channels.

I do not take pictures.
I do not put together slideshows.
I do not watch slideshows.
I am THAT DOOD!!
