I remember the Cole, she was our sister ship. I knew some of the crew on her. The Top Snipe (Senior Enlisted in Engineering) was on my last assignment on Afloat Training Team before I retired.
A few months before the Cole was attacked, our ship had stopped in Yemen for fuel. There was a small boat making runs in the harbor, low to the water and looked like it was going to sink. Come to find out they were making test run attacks towards our ship in preparation. I bet if they had not been so overloaded the Cole would have been my ship.
