Average electric bill is around $45 a month, AC set to 70 during the summer for the dogs. Gas during winter is currently $100 a month with temp at 64, and that is with a heated garage and gas hot water.

Better than the place in IN, around $280 average a month electric and just a gas fireplace for the winter around $75 in gas.

Solar panels help a bunch around here.

Daily? Doing the math says 12 in the Summer, 27 in Winter.

Bad efficiency? Yeah, that's a thing. My place is half the age of yours so I know all about it. Was rinsing something with cold water the other day and my fingernails turned blue

Last billing period (12-23-22 to 1-23-23)
1,195 Kwh
$161.00
Seems high for this little crackerbox I'm living in.

I believe you are correct. I couldn't believe how cheap his costs were....my bills from over 30 years ago in the SF Bay area show 11 cents per kwh. (my monthly total bill then was $30 to $40.

I think where I am in CA is the most expensive energy in the state. The demand is huge, the population has doubled in the last 30 years, and power plants have been dismantled and closed. A total shit-show that is not sustainable. On the ironic side, if you are less than about 31k a year salary, you only have to pay about 10 cents per kwh....the middle class taxpayers will make up the difference for you. So it pays to be irresponsible and to make poor life-choices here.

My living room, alone, is 1,200 sq. ft.

Looking at my last bill, I see I used 3,567 kWh. Set me back $489.98. Not too shabby considering it is winter.

And it is rare for them to admit it.

I was on a politics forum for years and I presented that issue, and one guy actually admitted it. 'Who wouldn't want to have to be responsible? I have to watch my budget, buy my own food, pay my bills, health care costs. Would be so much better if the government did that for me.'

For a single story, 3,000 SF house in Florida owned by a tech nut with a bazillion monitors and computers, I'd say my bill's are quite fair.

With 3 computers and 2 GPUs in my home office I don't even need to run the furnace unless I want the rest of the house to have heat.

Without my 1.5 ton mini split A/C system in the office, it'd be 15-20 degrees warmer than the rest of the house.

I use it and then I pay for it. I don't dwell on it. It's like my father (RIP) and my brother. They both will drive miles out of their way to save 2 cents on a gallon of gas not realizing that the extra miles they went to save 2 cents was lost driving further to get gas.

Electricity is needed (not really) in everyday life. As long as I can afford it I'll pay for it. I'm not interested in worrying about stuff I can not mostly control. I turn out the lights when I leave a room but that's about as far as I go to conserve electricity. I've got too much other shit to worry about.

Put a fan in that duct and back feed it to the house for heat.

Winter - Approximately 1200kwh
Summer - Approximately 3500kwh

My bill always says I use double the amount of an "efficient" home. In speaking with my neighbors, their bills say the same so I think it's just some tactic to get people to use less.
