Sling offers FNC with their 'Blue' package and the News Extra option for some of the business channels. I think that brings the total to about $46 monthly.

I've had a 2 element bowtie type coaxial antenna for about 15 years now. When I first used it I received about a dozen channels. I rescanned available channels yesterday and have about 49, many which appear to be OK programming.

So you hooked up an outdoor antenna to the existing Dish coax? How did it work? That's a perfect solution. I was only going for an indoor antenna so I wouldnt have to run coax/cable thru a wall... Using the existing cable from the dish is a no brainer if it in fact works...

Works perfectly it is what you run now. And if you get the tablo you can go wireless from there. Mine supports 4 TV's wireless with guide and dvr.

Yes you can. I installed an antenna and ran a cable from the antenna to my previous cable input. Depending on how many splits you have, you may need to add a power booster to get all the channels at some of the TV's. I am feeding 7 TV's off mine with about 50 channels on each. A lot are junk, but we get all the networks, and streaming services cover the gap.

You calmed my fears when I was thinking about it.

If your home has Coax ran through it, use it. Need to inject signal at source and if need be, place Amp in cable run. A smart TV will tell ya the signal power (in home wiring with or without Amp) and “quality” or received signal strength

That is where the tablo comes into play.

That really is a must, especially if you have a long coax cable run.

I have an antenna in the attic and and the pre-amp sends the signal to a splitter in the basement, which distributes it to the first floor, basement and outside. Good overall signal strength for half a dozen TV's.

That is what I was going to say. If you live in your grandmas old house that the 1970's antenna is still on the chimney it will work just fine. OTA frequencies have not changed. VHF is still 54-216Mhz (channels 2-13) and UHF is still 300-3000Mhz(channels 14 to I think in the 80's can't remember).

It doesn't matter what's being carried on this signal be it analog (old days) or digital (today) if the antenna is capable of receiving these frequencies they will. Of course you do need a tuner in the TV or a set-top tuner box.

When the frequency switch first happened, and everyone needed converter boxes, I remember those boxes being able to indicate signal strength. My Samsung flat screen, however, doesn't seem to have that basic capability.

Actually the carrier wave frequencies didn't change just the data carried changed from analog to digital data. That is why you needed a set top box when the data went digital because an analog tuner won't know what to do with a digital signal.

Still researching what streaming options I want before canceling my Dish subscription. In addition to the ones I already have, It looks like Sling TV will be my best choice for over all viewing....

I did that when I lived in TX and got roughly 30 channels back in 2009-ish. Works well. Just hooked the coax up to my TX that originally went into the DirecTV box and had the TV scan for HD OTA signals.

This website works well for finding which direction is best to point your antenna
https://www.antennasdirect.com/transmitter-locator.html

At best the farthest signal you should get is about 40Km (30 miles or so).

You don't need any paid subscription there are too many free ones out there. Explore those first you can always add later if you still want to throw your money away.
