Default Michigan under house arrest.....

I'm glad this authority ****er is telling me how often I can go to the grocery store....

The governor issued the "shelter in place" order this morning. I knew it was a matter of time once Ohio issued it.

Don't forget your 20-something county commissioner. She couldn't even quell a Greenpeace protest without shutting down major industrial arteries around town, but she's gonna tell people they can't leave their homes. Alrighty then.

The MI governor reminds me of Glen Close from Fatal Attraction

Both crazier than shithouse rats, and the governor especially seems like she's into BDSM, particularly the S part. That would perfectly explain ****ing up the whole economy of the state.

Michigan...well Detroit specifically, is a failed Socialism experiment and in over 50 years they haven't been able to recover from that debacle. Michigan is LUCKY to have the corona virus. It's still better than their leaders.

Michigan has been a day behind Ohio on everything related to this. I’m essential and in medicine so guess who is still going to work every day

The bullshit is getting unbelievably thick. My wife works at a bank, and is being told she needs to carry her work photo ID with her, AND a letter from the bank confirming that she is an employee, so that if she gets pulled over on her way to work, she can "prove" she is an "essential employee", and won't get a ticket for violating the lock-down.

I said "really?" What kind of bullshit is that? If some cop pulls me over, and asks me where I'm going, I'm just going to say something brilliant like "I'm going food shopping." Then what is he going to do? Is he going to try to prove I went food shopping last Tuesday so it hasn't been a whole week yet? What if I say I need cash, and am on my way to the bank? What if I say I am on my way to the drug store? I can be on my way to ANY "essential business", and be A-OK to be on the road, so how are they going to enforce this bullshit?

This is just more random bullshit meant to put "fear" into the general citizenry that has zero chance of any effective enforcement at all.

I doubt any cops want to pull anyone over unless they absolutely have to.

Coming home from the Post Office today I got on the (mostly empty) freeway. Some douche in a powder blue Porsche delt compelled to demonstrate how his Porsche is faster than an IS-F, so he blew past my on the on-ramp and immediately cut across 6 lanes going at least 100MPH... literally right in front of a motorcycle cop.

The cop paced this guy for a while, letting him shit all over his nice leather seat covers, and then sped off. Bottom line: none of us want to be exposed to the Corona virus.

Milwaukee got it today, Wisconsin is coming tomorrow. I'm on a rotating work-from-home. I was told that our business is essential because our products support refineries, power plants, municipalities, etc. so I won't be getting any time off even though my position has been redundant for the last six months.

Indiana has it. Our business is essential so it is work as usual down here. Now just to worry we will have enough people coming into work to keep the Smelter running.

Until people realize that what is being done is to stop the spread of the virus, they will resort to increasingly draconian measures until compliance is all but guaranteed. They will keep changing the definition of “essential-businesses” until all that’s left open are grocery stores. As a final measure, they might even order that gas stations be closed. At some point, you can go wherever you want as long as you have gas, but nothing will be open.

California first imposed a shelter in place with general directions to stay home. After that, they started directing more and more places to close. At this point, all our malls are closed, our restaurants, our golf courses, our beaches, our parks, etc. So yeah, you could go out and take a drive, but good luck finding anything open.

The state is losing BILLIONS of dollars doing this in tax revenue, in unemployment, and consumer spending.. they don’t want to do it any more than you want to follow their rules.. the sooner this pandemic passes, the better off we will all be.

Understood. So at a certain point, no one will be able to go get more food, because they don't have any gas, right? So now we have the entire society sitting in their homes slowly starving to death, and this is "for the good of society"?

This has been my point all along: this shit is totally not thought through. Your post is just another example of what I have been saying.

New Jersey is in the same place. All malls, restaurants, beaches, and parks are presently closed. I'm not sure about golf courses, but even though I do like to golf, I really don't care if they are closed. You can add nail salons, beauty parlors, gyms, movie theatres, concert venues, bars, and retailers that don't sell take-out food etc. to the list as well. Once you get to that point, why stop motorists at all to see where they are going? It's pointless, puts LEOs at risk, and adds NOTHING to the effort. How am I going to infect someone by driving down the road in my car? Why are we trying to "control" that behavior?

I agree that the sooner the pandemic passes, the better. But what I have said all along is that there is a societal cost to all of this, that WILL result in people dying. This is what our so-called "leaders" are completely ignoring. If you push the population to the point where they are all starving in their homes with no power and no heat, how many people will die as a result? How long with this go on before there is an immense reaction of civil disobedience, that is also certain to result in the loss of citizens' lives?

At the end of the day, history has shown time and time again that endlessly ramping up "control" to try to ensure "compliance" by the citizenry as a whole is a loser's game.

But you know what they say: those who fail to learn from the past are destined to repeat it.

So maybe the point you missed, is that 1) the police aren’t stopping anyone for being out— they have no desire to contact Corona any more than you do. Your chances of catching it from them is far greater than them catching it from you though.. They deal with way more people and have to make physical arrests.

2) Grocery stores are open even in the draconian city of Los Angeles, and no one is being stopped from going there.

3) For people who can’t afford to buy food, there are free food distributions points where you can just drive up and grab a sack of groceries.

So all I’m saying is they are closing everything that is truly “non-essential.” Not hospitals, not stores. And buses are free if you don’t have gas to drive.

Local police (best bud is a LEO) say the jails aren't even accepting misdemeanor inmates... cite and release is the order of the day currently.

At his press conference this afternoon Trump was already talking about easing restrictions and opening the country back up for business "soon."

The part that makes me shake my head about this whole mess is we still have people who think this was all some sort of scam... If there is anything I’ve learned, Trump is not afraid to go his own way, and he of ALL people would not want to jeopardize his chances of being re-elected to another term. His economy is in the toilet. Everything he gained in the last four years went poof... Why would Trump for one second go along with this if he thought it was just some sort of scam? He wouldn’t... Actually I don’t know a single politician who would. All of their careers are on the line and the economy is basically in ruins...

I don't think the virus is a scam. I think everything in the perimeter of the virus is a scam. It is being exploited and weaponized against the President and WE are paying the price for it. I am not EVER going to believe the Pelosi and company don't have a shit eating grin on their faces that requires nearly severing their tongues to keep hidden.

On the contrary. You apparently missed the point that I started off with, as follows (BTW, the post you yourself quoted):

Quote:

So apparently, we agree. The local PD is not going to start pulling over folks for simply being in their cars driving down the road. As such, no one needs to have additional paperwork and IDs PROVING that they are on their way to staff an "essential business". Right?

Also, I'm pretty sure your post is backward. I would guess (although I admit that I have not yet gotten my "internet expert in infectious diseases card") that you meant that an LEO would be much more likely to be exposed/infected to/with Covid19 from a person involved in a traffic stop/arrest than the other way around. But this is just another example of this whole thing not really being thought through. YMMV.
