... defines a hate group as an organization that “has beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics,” such as race, ethnicity, faith, gender and sexual identities. These groups must have engaged in some sort of activity in 2017 to qualify, such as holding rallies, meetings or protests.

In a call with reporters Wednesday, Beirich said that the overall number of hate groups as defined by SPLC had increased 4% from 2016 to 2017, to a total of 954. The number of Neo-Nazi groups grew from 99 to 121; anti-Muslim groups from 101 to 114; and anti-immigrant groups from 14 to 22.

At the same time, the number of black nationalist groups grew from 193 to 233. These organizations are “broadly anti-Semitic, anti-white, and usually anti-LGBT,” Beirich said. She noted that such groups have usually grown in number in response to rising white supremacy. These groups are “taking advantage of rising racism in the mainstream… as ways to attract people to their movement,” Beirich said.

So a total of 257 of the first three hate groups and 233 of the fourth group.
The other 464 groups were not classified.

Looking at their "Hate Map", they are listing every chapter of a group as a separate hate group. That's nonsense; you could have 10 chapters of the KKK in a state with one member each. That's 10 members, not 10 groups.

To be fair, they list Nation of islam as well. That's probably where any objectivity with the SPLC ends though.

I actually have some respect for Nation of Islam and Louis Farakhan, comparetively speaking.

Hucksters like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are just bottom feeders out for themselves, and they are terrible role models and literally do nothing to help blacks in America.

At least Calypso Louis, as nutty as he is, preaches things like family, being a father to your children, being self sufficient, etc.
