I have captained a 75' tri-level, any blowboat is easy.
⛵s have a shitstain due to the thousands in the FL Keys just waiting to sink. |

It's really easy. Furl the sails and fire up the engine. QED.

Always wanted to learn how to sail, however finding someone who wouldn't kill us both in the process has been an issue.

Did it once on single mast boat. Was alone, no training, only took a few minutes to figure out. Showed that boat who was the boss.

I took training and got my certification back in the 90s. Did several long trips across lake superior. Never owned a boat though - after awhile I found it boring. I didn't enjoy sailing offshore in the ocean.

I haven't a clue how to sail but my son is working on his captain license (not even sure that's the right term). He embarked on an Atlantic crossing a few years ago but the captain spent lots of time in various ports and family obligations cut his crossing short at Turks and Cacous. He's owned a couple sail boats but all I knew how to do was start the motor.

Only small stuff. Learned on a Sailfish. My family used to own a Hobie, and I sailed it many times across Buzzards Bay. It's a trip getting one pontoon out of the water and having the buried rudder howling.

Lived on the Chesapeake for many years. I think most know a jib from a rudder. Moved to Fla and had a power boat for several years. I have sea
legs. The hobby/profession is not for everyone. |

Sailing, not that many up here. I live on a large upstate lake (129 miles of shoreline, many camps and plenty of Marinas/boat launches.
I would guesstimate that blow boats make up less than 10% of the boats on the lake, with about 3/4s of them being those tiny, little cheap things.(sunfish) Not many large sail boats here. (thank goodness) |
