The Toyota was rebuilt, but never the same. And my co-worker was injured pretty badly. The other guy bought a new Ranger to replace his faithful '91 Ranger, and it got hit so hard at 20k miles it needed a new bed and frame. Then, about a year later, same thing. It's on it's third bed and frame at about 80k miles. He just sold his '91 with about 585,000 miles on it, original paint (no clearcoat to peel so it still looked good) and no dents (never been hit) for $3500 to a Mexican who took it south.
His '91 was a nicer truck than the 'new' one that had been pieced together several times and hit a bunch.
Just saying, some cars seem to go through a long life unscathed, while others are destined to be magnets for other cars, falling rocks, or fast moving shopping carts.
I look at it as a trade off. The Ranger will take the hits, while the Porch, TBird and Spider remain unscathed.

I have seen excellent examples listed for 20 grand.

80k miles and no rust? Probably 15-20k. 5 years ago about a 7k truck. These things don't even start to show wear until about 250k miles and usually go close to twice that before major stuff goes wrong. Overbuilt and understressed, unlike today's turbo tiny-engined trucks, which are just the opposite.

Yep. Pretty sure my 2021 F250 will be in the landfill before those old Toyota trucks from the 1980's/90's are dead.

I've had 3 Toyota pickups since 1991, all bought new. Never put more than 30-35k miles on any of them, that took 5-6 years, by then I'm tired of the vehicle and want a new one. The trade-in values of them was WAY WAY more than anything I've ever owned. I signed the paper very quickly before they changed their minds. The last time I traded a Chevy truck in, they didn't even really want it. Their offer was an insult.

I would have bought another Tacoma in 2022, but the salesman was such an asshole that I walked out, and traded my '17 Tacoma for the '23 Mazda CX5 I have now.

Ha, yes, nearly all new vehicles have tiny displacement, turbo-stressed engines. It's not the auto makers doing it willingly, it's the government -- forcing them to comply with all the MPG and safety standards, which will soon be impossible to comply with.

You think that Ford just added a turbo to a regular 2.3L engine and called it good? Or did they design it for the power that it actually produces?

As I figured Home Depot' s insurance won't pay for the damage. "Act of God."

I got two quotes for paintless dent repair. One 30 miles away, he'll need to keep the truck for a week, $3100.

A second, a lot closer, he'll need the truck for about two days, a cash deal would be $1500. He gets the job.

Of course not, Son. I was working on SVO Mustangs and Turbo T birds when you were still driving a bus for the MTA and going to school. BTDT and got the shirt.

So you should know, Sage, that Ford designed the engines for the power output, therefore they are not 'over-stressed'.

Please point out, Good Sir, where I stated that Ford engines were under-built and over-stressed. (In this thread).

I suspect there is some sort of mis-comyadication.

Damn. Have you had your insurance company quote it?

No and I don't plan on doing that. My deductible is $1000, and I don't want to risk having my premium increase since this is the second accident in less than two years. Even though the last time, the other guy's insurer paid the entire bill.

Speaking of the Porsche Cayman, here’s a long term review on a sexy Aventurine Green GTS 4.0 with a proper manual and brown leather
