Default Saw 3 people at lunch today, heads bowed...

I thought, "Wow. Saying grace in a restaurant - that's faith."

A few minutes later I looked over they were still praying.

Finally, I saw they weren't praying, just texting.

Was just discussing this with my son. We have created a generation of zombie idiots who are so engrossed in their devices they are missing the world around them. My kid ain't getting one.

And he will be left in the dust, as it is an essential tool of business. He might as well learn it now and become proficient.
I don't have one, but that's how they communicate now, like it or not.

No kidding. I don't think 11 year olds need "essential business tools". They need to see the birds, smell the grass, relate to other people, learn to have relationships.

I see too many kids drooling on themselves as they walk into traffic texting their friends who are standing right next to them. Asinine.

Your family is a lesson in WTF. First your kid teaches other kids about the sciences and then you don't let him use science driven technology to further his understanding.

I do agree with your statement, but you gotta admit....

The earlier that the skills are learned, the better off they will be, imo. My daughter uses an I-phone, and I-pad but has no problem studying 8 hours a day for her MCAT, and communicating with us.

I agree on that last sentence, and my wife's grand daughter is not attending school....studies on computer at home, logs in and does her shit, and has to pass the typical tests....

which after this year on doing that, to hear what wife/her parents think of the experience, and to hear of the kid's grades on the tests....

I think it's a interesting concept for ALL kids, and cutting edjeamakshunal costs by over 80% ......

Socialization is very important too..... All computer, and no friends make one a very unsocialized person. Parents sometimes need to police the use of the devices. They are great "punishment" incentives.

It's like saying it's the pit bulls fault for knawing on someones face.
When really it's the owners who have not trained the dog properly.

Or blaming the gun for killing someone when it was the person in possession who squeezed the trigger.

I don't see a problem with a kid having one. It's up to the parents to bitch slap them when they are using it at an inappropriate time.

First off, insulting my family is amazingly disrespectful.

We are not talking about science or using technology. We are talking about young kids who spend 90% of their day staring into a device instead of having real human experiences. Get a ****ing clue.

It doesn't take any skill to text someone or play a video game. The skills needed are critical thinking and human relations. My kid plays games and has a phone. But in moderation.

He has friends that have unlimited access to everything. They are turning into dolts. They are also hyper sexualized and use grunts to communicate.

It's not a question of using smartphones and Ipads. It's about being totally absorbed in virtual communication and materialism instead of real interaction. It's about parents who can't bear to say no to their kids and make them earn that shit themselves.

Use the tools. But put them the **** down when it's time to talk.

WTF is so hard to understand about this?

At lunch today there were 7 of us in the break room. 3 of them were on their phones playing 100 floors. It's stupid. My phone sits on my desk unless I leave the building.

What's even more stupid is we all sit at a computer all day. TAKE A F'N BREAK FROM LOOKING AT A SCREEN!
