For those that think this is a California problem…

The US Forest Service’s “10 AM policy” (and those that came after) kicked off almost 100 years of mismanagement. Nixon signed NEPA into law which now has been misused by environmentalists.

The entire west is now turning the corner and trying to manage forests the proper way (thinning, controlled burns, etc.) but it takes time to undue a century’s worth of damage.

Learn about the policies that brought us here and you’ll understand that this all started way before California turned blue or any litigation started by environmentalists. You have to go back 100 years to get to the start of the problem. And not just in California.

I live across the street from a public park. Parks seem to be magnets for all kinds of shenanigans - homeless people, kids drinking and doing drugs, losers having sex, public urination, etc.




But it's also a magnet for nutcases. Like the guy who comes to the park to worship this one particular tree:



Or the old hag who drives her car to the park, stares off into space for a while, and then gets out and walks around in circles for 20 minutes or so before getting back into her car and taking a nap.

And then there are the people - mostly Chinese - who spend a large chunk of their day walking the same route over and over and over again. OK, I get it, you want exercise - but Jesus H. Tapdancin' Christ, don't you ever get bored walking the same route 4 or 5 times a day, every day?

Maybe... But why that one specific tree out of the dozens of trees in the park?

I should mention that this guy is not the only one who worships that particular tree. A few years ago there was a different guy who used to come to that same tree and do similar shit like take his shirt off and rub his back against the tree like Baloo the bear. He did that for a couple of years but then he moved away and I never saw him again. Then maybe a year ago this new guy showed up.

Here’s the thing. I believe many of the fires are terrorism. Setting fires is an almost perfect tactic. Low risk, low skill, low cost, high impact both economically and in terms of publicity.

Yet nobody is discussing it.
