Actually, thats really only true of the western religions; Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Most, if not all of the Eastern religions (Hindism, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Shinto) are completely accepting of other faiths as they themselves worhsip many gods and deities.

Sadly, these days its too easy to believe what you see and hear. In fact, I'd say it's an overwhelming chore to actually form your own opinion based on non-biased factual information.
Of course, with religion it's quite a different story. Most of the important religious tenents require "faith" not proof. An exponentially harder thing to form an opinion on.

I'm no bible scholar and I'm not even convinced of my own religious beliefs, but this one bible verse from Matthew 6.1-4 has resonnated with me for years. It seems more appropriate than ever these days:

“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets that they may be praised by others"
