not a good tuesday:

talked with mom on the phone, easily confused, asked about my office (i've been retired for 12 years) and how work was going.

then heard from my sister that dad, at home, had left the cooktop burner (electric) on for several hours after making himself some scrambled eggs.

going to be a long summer and fall.

Dad has been interviewing some home health aides, and the nurse at the long term care center thinks mom can go home next thursday. so dad has a week to get things ready for her and prepare himself for the next task at hand. providing full time care when the aides are not there.

Does she have any long term health care insurance? Doctors here can order home healthcare for elderly. They would come several days a week to help with my m-i-l. Just helping her with her bath 3-4 times a week was good. Ask the nurse at the center for a social worker. They should know of any available resources.
Thoughts and prayers! It’s not easy.

mom is due to come home today. she'll have a home health aide for 10 hours a day, sunday's off for the aide.

we are very thankful for this good news.

Neighbor friends 2 houses down, same shituation, her folks are in really shakey shape....about 90 y/o they in mid 60's and would love to downsize into a smaller residence....

I have my mother with me, she's got dementia. At least once a week, she asks when Dad is getting back. Hes been dead for almost two decades. You'll get used to it. Well, you won't really get used to it, but you'll be resigned to the fact that this is how it's going to be.
