Default '67 Wheel Bearing Seal Question

Posted over there but no replies.....

An after the fact question,......What direction is the correct way to install the inner front wheel bearing seal? Let me try to explain....The seal I removed from the rotor has its "rubber" centered in the metal ring, the aftermarket National Brand seal had the "rubber" offset in the metal ring. Should the rubber seal go in closer to the bearing or further from the bearing (which would ultimately sit further on the rotor lip). Does that make sense????

Post a photo of the seal and I'll see if I can clear it up.

This is how I chose to install it putting the so called rubber seal closer to the bearing. You can see the larger side of the metal part of the seal would be heading towards the engine compartment.

I am posting while driving please forgive me

That's one of the original type single lip seals. The deeper side should be facing the bearing, but due to its design, it really doesn't matter and will function either way.

Take notice of the small bevel on the edge of the rubber. This what swayed me towards installing it this way. It slides onto the metal ring on the spindle....? IDK, I'm getting contradicting info now.....

I missed that! You have it installed correctly!!! Tapered side should always face the spindle/stub axle.
