A fisherman in Australia made a costly blunder when he went to fill up the gas tank of his boat at a 7-Eleven in West Pennant Hills, New South Wales. He mistook a rod holder for the gas tank, and the end result was not pretty.

With the nozzle securely sitting in the rod holder, 231.46 liters of gasoline poured onto the floor of the boat and into the bilge, as reported by Yahoo! News Australia.

The total cost? $536.76.

didn't this happen before somewhere in Alabama?

Seems like the gas could be pumped out with a bilge pump, but it would be contaminated, so there's still the disposal problem. Long term, however, I'd be worried about the solvent aspect of the gasoline to disintegrate adhesives that may be used with the fiberglass when the hull was laid in.

Edit: Or, just remove the drain plug and stick a siphon hose down and pump it out that way.

It was an attempted theft that left a nasty taste in the mouth.

Criminals in Australia tried to siphon petrol from the gas tank of a bus — but accidentally tapped into the sewage tank instead.

The bus was found in the Western Australia town of Laverton with a cap on the ground beside it on the ground. Cops say that the unidentified gang got a mouthful of human waste when they tried to siphon fuel from the tank.

"We can infer they beat a very hasty retreat, with a somewhat bitter taste in their mouth," Laverton Police Sen. Sgt. Heath Soutar told Yahoo News.

Soutar also confirmed that police officers "have absolutely zero interest" in recovering the stolen goods.

Some years ago I left my rain gauge out too late in the fall, it got rain in it, it froze and cracked it.

So I bought a new one, and I drilled a hole in the bottom of it so I didn't have to empty it all the time and worry about it freezing.

A Bic lighter would have been faster. But use one of those longer candle ones so you don’t burn your fingers.
