Default A Prayer for a Beloved Pet

Someone shared this prayer with me today, thought I would pass it on to the pet folks here...also useful for expressing condolences to friends or family who have lost a beloved pet (author unknown):

"O God, as we have taken care of (pet's name) in life, we ask that You watch over (him/her) in death. You entrusted (pet's name) to our care; now, we give (him/her) back to You. May (pet's name) find a happy new home in Your loving embrace. As we remember (pet's name), may we love each other more dearly."

Fletchie we adopted him in June 2011. He was a tornado survivor.

I never noticed (or clicked) this thread before, thanks Arrow-Guy.

I got two kittens (brother and sister) the first Saturday of May 2005. Cats are a must around here unless you like mice in the silverware drawer, on the coffee table, etc. I never had two cats at the same time before and thought I'd try it.

Nikki, the female, got some sort of cancer in June 2020. She went downhill so fast. One week after I noticed her not acting right I had to take her for "the ride."

Mickey, her brother, was with me til the day after Easter this year. He was 18. His hips had been getting bad for a couple years and Easter weekend he could barely walk. He hadn't been able to groom himself properly either. So April 10 was his last day. Sad stuff.

But they had a great life here. I have a pet door, they could go in or out as they wish and always went out to "do their business," all woods around here, vermin to kill were endless. I had a food hopper in the kitchen, they could eat whenever they wanted, as much as they wanted.

I will get another kitten this summer. Hopefully it will out-live me.

Thanks guy.

I will be getting a new kitten this summer sometime. If it lives to a full age it will out-live me, so I won't have to go through this again.

I’m not even sure how long it’s been since I had to put my buddy down, last Friday or one before.. seems surreal.. he has been in the middle of my life for nearly 12 years, a perfect gentleman, he was always ready.

Very sorry for your loss, words and memories can only do so much, George has been gone about 2.5 years, I refuse to discuss him.

I think the only help is to already have another dog, or got out immediately and get another one.

Ringo is now 8 - 9, not sure he was a shelter adoption, I need him to live forever!!

Sorry about your loss. A dog is more than family. I know that day will come, and it bothers me.

The first time I saw my boxer was five days old; he is still strong seven years later. Boxers' average lifetime is 8-10 years. Neutered or spayed dogs last longer; I know a lot of boxers that lasted 12 thru 14 years of age.

That guy was a great-looking dog. Your heart will guide you to the right time to get another Doberman.

It was a year yesterday lost Noki.
Miss our patrols 2 or 3 times a day. He was such a well behaved doggo, think he was so grateful for being rescued from a cage.
Couple of pics, one from not too long after we got him wearing his jinglers as he wanted to chase the deer and ran onto the woods a couple of times. Once it was right at dusk.. He found me and led us home as it gets a tad dark in the woods in the winter.
Others are from friend's house, he was waiting in back yard for neighbors dogs to come out and play. They were gone on vacation and he laid in the yard for 2 days waiting for them to come out, only came in when I put a leash on him when it was bed time.
Other is from front porch which he absolutely loved to guard, scared the crap out of mail lady more than once with his bellowing barks.

Today I had to put my cat down. Huni was a outdoor cat for 17 years and her last, year and 10 months she chose to live inside with me. I am very grateful for what she did for the outside keeping critters away, and the company she brought to me and my girls. She will be missed.
We brought her from Hawaii.. She was simple cat, never really needy till lately as we had a few visits to the Vet. My oldest found her in a bad state today and rushed her to an ER for pets.. There was nothing left to do but put her in a state of no pain, and send her to the meadows where animals go when they pass.
Silly as it sounds, the girls did video chat with me and I spoke to her, and she perked up her eyes went wide open. RIP Huni.
