Default stupid damn car...

got the steering hose changed out.
Battery is completely and utterly dead... I had the neg. unhooked this winter.
My charger won't even turn on because it thinks it's not a battery.

can I charge a completely drained battery?

If you have another battery. Hook it up to that one for a couple hours. Take it off and put the charger on. But I am betting yours is toast.

No... No it will not recharge.
In Buffalo, a trickle charger is a necessity !

If you can get a hold of an old "dumb" battery charger, they can be used to bring them back to life. If your battery has been sitting dead for awhile it is likely toast.

It sat in the car over a WNY winter w/o a trickle charger.
It's toast.

I don't know if anyone remembers the thread, but this is why you don't put a maintenance free battery on a trickle charger for long periods of time.

Yes, you can charge a completely dead battery. Just hook up your charger and leave it for a couple of hours. The needle will bounce back and forth for a long time before the battery starts to accept a charge, but it will. Done it lots of times.

Meh...I leave several batteries in cars, lawn tractors etc. all winter in MI without any sort of trickle charger. I just disconnect them for the winter and hit them once during the winter with a top off charge. One battery has been around since 2006 and it's still good.
