Default Accomplishments in life......

Neighbor friend stopped by yesterday afternoon, I had just got finished fixing the damn garage door....so we setting there in the afternoon sun, and I lamented I really tired of all the shit on today's market, that it's really bad how short a span we have for our money on anything we buy.....damn junk.....Let alone the efforts we put into it.....

So he says, that he feels that he has never accomplished anything in life...he is 2 years younger than me, so age 70.....He commented that at age 17 he and a buddy on a mountain hike in New Hampshire, managed to rescue a girl who fell off a mountain ledge, so he went over the side while his much larger/heavier friend held on to him and they got a loop under her shoulders, and pulled her up/over.......and then in the .mil he managed to save some guys once or twice....

But his over all feeling was that he never accomplished much in his life....and I feel the same way, really, world would be no different if I never existed.....

anyone else feel this way???

I think at times most people feel that way or close to it. But....and there's always a but ...if you really think back about the thousands of people you have touched in your lifetime you will find that you have made a difference to many and served a purpose.

Some of those I touched just slapped me and threatened to call the police.

depends which standard you are measuring by.

the world's standards? where if you don't cure some disease, win some war, get elected to some high office, become CEO of some large company, then you aren't properly successful? pass.

Yes and I've complained about it to my wife from time to time recently. But she's always quick to point out a couple kids at school (one in particular) who's lives I've invested a considerable amount of time in and the impact that's had.

But I'm still answering yes.

A common side effect of drinking the Korean magical elixir Soju is hallucinations. I know I can play quarters with three other people, consume one combat bottle and finish half of another, and have not one hallucination. I can't say that about my friend. The night culminated with her on the floor, crying, and asking us to take care of her kids. The magical part, she didn't have any kids.

That's one of the reasons I like watching Jimmy Stewart in "It's a wonderful Life" once a year around Christmas time. Think of what the world would be like if you hadn't of been born, all the aspects of other's lives that you have affected or saved altogether. Sometimes even the smallest thing that you consider important may have had a huge impact on another's life.
I think of all the happy couples that met and had smart productive kids because of businesses I built. They never would have met if it weren't for me.
Everyone feels like they haven't accomplished anything from time to time......it's called being human.

I saved two people from drowning back in my canoeing days. They were doomed otherwise in both cases. So there's that at least. One guy was barely hanging on to the edge of a pipe under a low water bridge during a flood and a tree was wedged inside the pipe. Got him out in time, he was bruised from stem to stern. The other one was a young woman who couldn't swim. Someone started yelling for help after a big canoe cluster-wreck on flood debris, I was trying to get that sorted out. Paddled over to them, they told me this woman was underwater somewhere. I took off in the canoe to find her, spotted her in about 15 feet of water, rolling along the bottom. Dove down and drug her to shore, and she came to pretty quick. It was close.
