Default wanted t0 give an update 4 weeks post surgery

It was 4 weeks ago today that I had my spleen and half my pancreas taken out in a 7 hour surgery. I was in the hospital the whole week, out on the 5th and back home. Then back to work on the 12th. I got off the Oxycodone as soon as I could which was the first week home, and have been taking nothing but advil since the 10th or so. I still havent tried driving because the seatbelt will rest right on my drain which I am hoping they will take out next week. I still get tired fast but I am sleeping a good 8 hours a night, usually in two 4 hour increments with a pee & Advil break in between. My wife has been awesome to me, keeping me on my low fat diet and changing the dressing on my drain hole daily. The kids have become more self sufficient too, making their own lunches in the mornings and feeding the animals every day. Have had a couple families from the church bring by dinners that were absolutely wonderful, even if I can only eat a little at a time. Long story short, Im getting better. Its going to be a while yet, like Christmas time, before I am back to normal but thats OK. I really thank God for healing me as fast as he has, and for the friends and family I have. Thanks to all who have thought about me.

Don

from my high of 300+, after my little heart problem, by changing what i ate, and taking daily walks with Leah (doggie), i'm down to 225 +/-2.

it's amazing what junk food does to you.

Glad to hear all is going well. Tough times with that kind of surgery. After 5 years, I still don't have the stamina I had before.

Dang man, glad you were able to bounce back with a keeper. Without my wife I dont know what I would be doing. Probably sitting around wondering why my side hurt so bad.

You should cut down on the Advils. My heart doc said all those nsaids are hard on your heart muscle and your kidneys after prolonged use.

I tried stepping down to Tylenol but couldn't do it. I will quit them as soon as I can. Thanks for the info I didn't know about the heart and kidneys.

no motrin or advil here, just tylenol or prescription good stuff. yup, motrin is tough on your tummy and heart long term.
