because maybe one day, you won't be able to do so anymore.

Linda's (Mrs. DAB) cancer has affected her ability to consume solid foods, so she's presently stuck on drinks and soups. sometimes some ice cream. as you might imagine, the choices are limited.

so next time you chow down something, thank God that you can do so with enjoyment. and thank God that you have something to eat in the first place.

Yeah, that's not good. Had to eat using a glass straw for a month when I was a kid. After the first week of not being able to eat solid food it felt like torture.

I have spent the last week and a half visiting an "assisted living" facility every day. Even though I am nowhere near the physical specimen I was a third of a century ago, this experience has shown me that things could be a whole lot worse!

many moons ago, part of my job was to visit those places, to inspect their physical condition for banks and investors. very depressing places, just warehouses for old people.

my sister volunteers at one near her house, twice a week, keeps the residents busy and occupied for a few hours each day. otherwise, it's pretty boring watching the walls. she's a gem.

A good friend of mine has (had, hopefully) cancer of the tonsils. He's finished his course of treatment but still can't eat. He has a port directly to his stomach that he has to "eat" through. Hopefully, this is a temporary situation, as Linda's situation will also be temporary before they both return to health.

I brought my 10 year old German Shepherd "Belle" with me. I always said that she could be a therapy dog if I had wanted to go down that road. She has been very sweet to the residents, and tonight, one woman that I had NEVER seen say a word, started talking to her when Belle went to see her. The woman's husband was VERY impressed!

I am still hoping for the best for Mrs. DAB!
