I agree with you, mostly. Trump has had a whole slew of bad picks. Early on, some were patronage, like Jeff Sessions and Amarosa, Some, like Rex Tillerson and the generals, were folks that thought that Trump was like every other politician, make promises, then back off of them once he got elected.

Once Tillerson, the generals, and some others, figured out that no, Trump actually is Hell bent on implementing the policies he ran on, they bailed.

Having said that, Trump has continued with bad hires in very public positions. Bill Barr? Bill did the bare minimum, got the Mueller witch hunt ended, and stopped (well, tried to stop) the persecution of General Flynn, but really not much else. Other than that, he's a swamp protector. Chris Wray? WTF? Esper?

Yes, I agree he is hiring some shit people. There is the argument that the Senate won't approve people Trump actually wants, and is actively working against Trump by preventing recess appointments. That's true. Every other president in recent memory gets to pick his own staff, but not Trump. Trump has to suggest people the Senate will actually approve. This is something new that other presidents have not had to deal with.

Having said that, I blame Trump for not just putting people in acting roles like Ric Grenell. This is a serious beef with Trump that I agree with. People are saying that Trump will clean house after the election, but really, I don't understand why he would wait. Just fire Chris Wray, for example. Fire his ass. He's failing.

You've hit on my biggest pet peeve with Trump, and I'm a fan of Trump.

I live in the DC area. Politically, if you work for Trump, you are done in DC. All these people want to keep working here forever. That's why you see the books, gigs with MSNBC and CNN breaking bad away from Trump.

I saw the tail end of it. I admit, he sounded more coherent than he has been. Today was a good day, I guess. You'll notice that after he went blank a couple of times, he quickly called an end to it, without questions.

He either had enough self awareness to know he was starting to fade, or his staffers were signaling him, as they normally do when he's had enough.

He stutters. Going "blank" as you put it is probably a mechanical coping mechanism for a stuttering person. Stopping to regroup is better than stuttering in the eyes of a critical public. Neither is better but the former is obviously the better solution. I actually thought his transitions weren't too bad .He took quite a few questions.
