New setup
What do you think of these components ? If you have suggestion let me know.
This is just this first stage of my sound system transformation there will be more to come later. Rockford Fosgate Punch 400-4 amp 4-channel car amplifier 50 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms (100 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms) 200 watts RMS x 2 bridged output at 4 ohms (4-ohm stable in bridged mode) Pioneer TS-A1702C 6 1/2 component speakers 4 ohm 50 watt RMS for the rear panel Rockford Fosgate P2D28 8 inch dual voice 2 ohm sub woofer @ 200WRMS Boston Acoustic S35 3 1/2 2 way speakers 4 ohm 30wrms for the doors Pac Audio AOEM-VETT1 audio interface I am keeping the stock head unit for now and replacing the door twiddlers with the Boston Acoustic 3 1/2 speakers. The Pac interface will allow me to use the Rockford Fosgate amp to power the Pioneer 6 1/2 speakers in the mid panel and power the Rockford Fosgate sub. Here is how I plan to power the rear speakers and sub. With the amp set in 4 channel mode power the 6 1/2 speakers from the front speaker out on the amp and bridge the rear output to the sub woofer wired in series to create a 4 ohm load on the amp channel. My next stage I will be upgrading the head unit and replace the BOSE door speakers. I am a novice at selecting audio component, I have been researching for a month now. I fully understand wiring and electricity just not real sure on component selection. Thanks for any help. |

That sounds like a good combo. I replaced the 4 Bose speakers with Sony and went with the Pioneer AVIC z100bt headunit. I need to do the amp thing to give a little more 'bump' and put some tweeters in.

I'm not a fan of rear speakers in a cabin this small but that's just me.. Another idea would be to bi-amp the door speakers. One channel to the tweeter and one to the mid/full range drivers. The 4 channel amp you have listed would do that well. Give you a lot of control of the sound also.
I like BA stuff but I think I'd look for 3 1/2's that will handle a little more power. What is the peak power rating on them? Just my $.02 Last edited by WKMCD; 10-17-2010 at 7:33pm. |

that amp see's way to small to run a sub. i had an alpine amp that pumped out about the same power running my components. it was ok for that, can't imangine running a sub off it.
i have since upgraged to a PDX 5 which powers my components (polk DB6501) and my sub (JL 10w3v3) great little amp that can power everything. 75X4 + 300X1 (birth sheet was closer to 100 + 400) |

You're going 3 ways instead of components for the fronts?

Let us know how it ends up! Been thinking about a 3 way for a long time but not sure if it is worth the extra money...

So how did it turn out?
I am thinking about replacing all my speakers, adding and amp and a sub but keeping my stock head unit. Has anyone that done this added a processor or eq between the HU and the amps or is it even necessary? |

I swapped out all 4 of my speakers mid last year, but I went to the double din option with a Pioneer HU. I bought a pair of slightly used amps from WKMCD to power MB Quart tweeters (once I make time to get back out to his house to finish wiring). I also got a sub amp from him, but haven't decided if I'm going to install a sub or not.

I finally started the audio transformation. Have the head unit installed so far. The install is fairly easy, if you understand wiring diagrams. The hardest part is modding the bezel and locating the head unit in the head unit in the right location. This is one them mods you have to take time and think ahead what the out come will look like. I will post pics once I am finished.

I give ya credit for doing the bezel yourself and not just buying a pre-made one, not that there is anything wrong with that.
