I-26 from Charleston to Columbia is now both sides going north/northwest.

There's already been one shooting. Some driver tried to go around police barricades and the situation escalated. It didn't end well for the driver.

Well, it's been 11 years straight since Katrina; Matthew is the first "above a Cat 2" that has affected the US mainland.

Although it's been a decade since the US has been impacted by a major hurricane... it's no reason to not take Matthew serious. A Cat 4 storm (even if the eye stays 50 or more miles offshore) is serious business. The out-reach of winds and rain are quite extensive.

Be careful out there.
That's SOP, move the aircraft to safer areas. I remember Hurricane Andrew. There was an F16 not able to be evac'd and got pushed around. It actually survived much better than expected.

Andrew hit in August and we went to Cocoa Beach in December on vacation.
We got to see a Space Shuttle lift off, but the best part was watching a Saturn Rocket take off at midnight from our hotel pool.
It was a party because all of the military personnel were put up all around the area because they were displaced from Homestead AFB by Andrew. Imagine 30 milspecs and a bunch of civilians partying poolside waiting for the big glow ball to go up.
It was awesome. A space shuttle and a Saturn rocket all in one vacation.

That must have been cool. Would love to see a launch. Alas, the only time I was at Cape Canaveral, there were no flights scheduled.

Ya, we just lucked out. If it weren't for the fact that I was at the bar earlier, I wouldn't have known about the Saturn launch. We got invited to the launch party by the military guys..

Very to see all that and also to be "adopted" by military.

A guy I later met and have become good friends with was stationed at Homestead. After a coupla weeks, the AF asked him what base he wanted to go to. He told them McChord which is Seattle/Tacoma. Normally, the AF does not ask where you want to go. You get orders and that's it, no discussion.

I wonder if that will be counted as a storm fatality.

I now how to feel. When we had thunder storms, Hurricanes and blizzards up in NH I'd pour a stiff drink and stand on the front enclosed entry way and watch it wildly spinning by.

8 feet of snow in two days two winters ago was my wildest weather event.
I saw ball lightning once too. That was totally freaky to see and hear.

Snowvember if I recall correctly.

I went camping decades ago up in Bear Mountain. The ranger came by Saturday afternoon a blizzard was going to come through and around midnight the temp would start to drop to below -20F.

The men set up warming tents and I and The other senior scouts set up the younger kids as best we could.

By 2Am all the kids had bailed on thier tents and went to either the warming tents or the men cars ( all had station wagons). Except myself and my Buddy. They came to check on us and we were sound asleep and snug as bugs in a rug.

We got up to two feet of new snow and had our fire going within minutes.

I love it.

Don't you remember the pic of his driveway from the garage? The snow was 4 to 5 feet and he needed a payload er from down the streef to get him out.

I bet Jeff still has the pic.
