I have one room in my house I use as a den, about the only reason you cannot call it a bedroom as it has a regular circuit not a AFC!.
Here an egress window is the requirement for a room to be a bedroom.

Someone once mentioned the on my lower windows. Bars that are installed on bedroom windows here have a release lever inside to open in case of an emergency.

Don't know about national code, I was just commenting on NH code. I don't have a single GFCI outlet in my house

State codes can supersede national codes

The National Electrical Code (NEC) was written to provide a set of rules and regulations to keep the use of electricity in your home safe. The NEC is the basis for most local electrical codes, although the local codes take precedence over the NEC wherever there is a discrepancy between them.

Are the bars on your windows there to keep the occupants in?...or to keep the pavement apes out?

AFCI are known as “sputtering arc” breakers. Their main purpose was to protect against breaks in extension cords-especially cords run under rugs etc….

All your code authorities are manufacturers, vendors, and service organizations. While codes do make things safer, Manufactures want things written into code to sell product-especially costly items like AFCI/GFCI breakers/receptacles. At least most of us don’t have to follow Chicago electrical code where everything has to be in conduit.

If I had the budget I’d use MC cable to wire my house.

That's not my point. My point is that GFCIs protect differently than AFCIs.
