Alldata shows 6.6 and add .9 for with a folding top. What that has to do with it, I dunno.

Alldata said to add .9 for a convert also when I R@R my engine. The only thing I could think of is don't all verts have a cross brace?

Having never done it that would make sense.

That's exactly what the extra cost is.

The only C4 trans I pulled was on my 84. Working solo, took me about 3.5 hours each direction not counting beer breaks. I bought a cheap transmission jack from Harbor Freight that worked very well. It sounds like the book time is pretty accurate.

Also, pick up a 3' extension for getting to the top bolt on the bell housing. Not a big deal with the extension, murder without it.

Also, pull the distributor cap, or it could hit the firewall and break when the engine tilts backward.

I am having a friend that owns a shop build it for me. He is going to take it out too. I would do it but don't feel comfortable without a lift.

Does anyone know what components should be upgraded to support over 400HP?

For peace of mind,, just about everything. Try the PATC website, they have a lot of the good stuff needed to toughen it up. I'll check that address and post it here.

Here's their website, 700R4 Performance Transmissions and 700R4 Performance Transmission Parts from PATC

I have bought from them and they are good people to deal with. It would probably be cheaper to just buy one of their already beefed trans's and just do the R&R than to buy everything for yours and pay to have it done.

I did it with the car on jackstands on my back. Then again, I was 8 years younger then. Today I would probably take it to a trans shop and tell them "call me when it's ready"

The big trans builders buy parts in bulk and build hundreds of them at a time....keeps costs down.

I think at the most the cost will be the same. I will have a transmission built by someone I know well and can trust. Any warranty issues will be local and I wont have to pull it myself.

Good point on the warranty.
