Was served only a few hours ago.
I will make sure there is NOTHING for her to get. Already looking to purchase a new home. She THINKS, will have a penny left for her to profit on! Guess what, I'm going to let your lawyer take you for every dime he can. He told me via phone that there will be NOTHING left when he's done. Screw you! Should have never made me your enemy. When my kids Mom and I divorced thirty years ago I told her I would come out better than her. She didn't think so. She got the house, her car, and I paid child support and insurance on the kids. I got my two cars and my clothes. But I knew no matter how much money she had she'd always be broke. Just one of those types.
Fast forward to now. We have one house here almost paid for; one in Florida along with an extra 1.25 acre lot, both paid for; signed a contract for another house here last Thursday. Plus I have had literally two hundred cars over the years and have six now (all paid for).

She is still renting.

Let's assume her point is legitimate. It works both ways. If a second income in my house, allowed me to enjoy certain advantages, then my ex should contribute to maintaining MY lifestyle too.

Living better is the answer.

My ex has an apartment not a house
A car payment not a car paid for
Credit card debt out the ass
200 / month for hair bullshit
80 every few weeks for nail bullshit
Supporting her daughter that I'm sure is not and has no intention of working (at 28).

I'm not happy, but I am living better financially. ZERO debt and zero explanations needed for where I go and how long I was gone...or what I spent.

I SERIOUSLY had to explain to her on the phone one day, why I spent $11.00 at Walgreens.

Here's what I've found about financial security - some people really don't give a shit. They're happy with gigantic car payments, maxed out credit cards, no savings, no nothing. The things that would keep me awake all night don't impact them at all.

I took a swift kick in the balls during my divorce last year and spent more than a couple months in a bad place mentally and financially. Getting divorced at 58 ain't for the weak. One big hang up was my age. At 40 you've got 20+ years to get back on your feet. At almost 60 your earning power is substantially less. (This is why I asked the OP upthread how old he was)

I think there's a happy medium between constantly worrying about money and not giving a flying **** about it.

Just curious: Did any of you divorced guys have an amicable divorce? Maybe even use mediation instead of hiring lawyers and going to court?

my first...there were no issues deciding on things. We had different lawyers, but it was just a formality.

Close. She had a lawyer, I didn't. I made a spreadsheet of how it would all land and she took issue with a couple items on it. I said I'd get a lawyer...and she decided my way was acceptable.

I told her early on I was willing to spend every penny of mine and hers if I needed to. Lawyers were the only ones that were going to come out on top.

We would meet for coffee or breakfast and talk and discuss things, but once her 401k came in to the divorce discussion, the friendliness and contact ended.

Time is kind and I have forgotten some of the details, but it stayed pretty civil.

For my divorce; I got the house, all furnishings (except for the bedroom set), my Corvette.

In turn, she didn't have to pay alimony. I was recovering from a serious health probelm... not working at the time.

Relatively civil although we both had lawyers. I feel I had a decent lawyer, he told me up front,,,

,,,isn't how he does business. He'd fight for whatever I asked him to but he'd also advise me when it was better to just walk away rather than spending $1000.00 to fight for a $200.00 item.

I also agreed to a few things I probably didn't have to but the thing was dragging on and I didn't have the stomach for it.
