I have to get implants. Dammit!!!

Not the fun kind the ladies get.... dental implant.

On of my crowns fell off today while eating a PubSub and took part of the tooth with it. The dentist was able to cement it back on, but it's a temp fix.

Anybody else had dental implants? Expensive? Pain level? How long was the process?

I've had good luck with re-glued crowns.

I'd let it ride for awhile.

There wasn't much tooth left to glue it back on, hence it's only a temp fix. I'll go check with the VA dental and see if they will give me a referral that I won't have to pay out of pocket for.

I’ve gotten 3 in total. They run about $4k each all in, including crown in NJ. I hate dental work. You go to a specialist for the implant and the dentist handles the rest. I asked for nitrous or whatever the wacko gas is. It’s kind of a drawn out process, maybe total of four or five visits. You will have a temp installed over the implant. Had mine a couple of years ago and all good. Get recommendations on the oral & maxillofacial surgeon - a cheap hack job is like a C4 - good from 20 feet away but you wouldn’t want one.

In the process right now. Like IS said, it’s kind of a drawn out process requiring multiple visits. Step one will be extraction of what’s left of the broken tooth. Then they go in an insert the implant. Then they wait to insure the implant has fused to your jaw bone. Then they take an impression for the crown an finally they apply the crown. I started with the tooth extraction in November. After they put the implant in they wanted to wait a minimum of three months to make sure it was fused properly. It’s just tons of fun and my dental insurance is only covering part of it. I will end up paying about $2500 out of pocket

I just started two more for a total of five. PITA but better than a root canal, IMO. They use a little torque wrench when they bolt them in. I’m going to ask for it when they put these in.

The three I have completed, have been working well for the last couple of years and my surgeon said the success rate is 90-95% ~. Two thumbs up. Good luck DJ.

FWIW, there's no way anybody is going to screw anything into my jaw unless it is broken and needs set.
