Repairing a cracked wheel?
Anyone ever had a cracked wheel repaired, if so did it hold? When I uncovered my vette last weekend, one of my tires was 15 lbs low, never lost an ounce in 7 years. Pulled the wheel and tire off today, sure enough cracked wheel - thank you crappy Michigan roads. The crack is on the inner lip (bead), perpendicular to the edge. All indications are that this type of crack can be welded. Anyone have experience with this?
The wheels are ZR1 replicas that where powder coated by the previous owner, so I don’t know the powder color. If I did, I’d attempt to buy a replacement wheel. Otherwise it looks like a new set of wheels |

I have done much grinding &sanding, some at Atomic plants and I worked the welded bead over. It came out real good. You could not see where we worked! Only need a very small weight to bring wheel and tire up to balance spec. When he got rid of the car (Camaro) years later was still fine! Never leaked! A serious pro shop should have no problem doing that work! |

Most larger cities have a rim repair shop and yes it works. I had a serious gouge fixed years ago.
