Owning one would be nice.

This video is dated 2007. Seems Perry Margouleff's prediction did not come to pass.

Interestingly enough, the "Beano Burst" is lost. Much speculation as to where it is or what happened to it.

Whoops, I stand in error.

Gibson Guitar: The Mystique of the 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard

Quote:
Over the past decade 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standards have sold o for anywhere from $50,000 for hard-worn examples to over $1-million for Peter Green’s and Gary Moore's legendary Holy Grail — the guitar Green used on Fleetwood Mac’s early albums and that Moore also put to the test repeatedly during his fruitful career. Models from 1958 and 1960 don’t sell for the same staggering amounts at auction, even though Clapton’s legendary Bluesbreakers Les Paul was a ’60. And sonically not every ’59 channels the voice of God, since manufacturing procedures were less precise and consistent during the ’50 and ’60s.
Going to sit in the corner...

There is also a LOT of speculation about what year the Beano Burst is. MANY experts claim '59 due to double whites in the neck position and top hats. It's either a late '59 or '60.

Page's #1 also has some speculation surround it. Many claim it's a '59, but a boatload swear it's a '60.

Billy Gibbons' '59 'Pearly Gates' is widely held to be one of the best sounding Bursts ever made.

I've seen the videos of the old 'burst's. Don't hear that big a difference between the late 50's models and others 20-30 years newer.

I have never owned a Les Paul, maybe when I turn 50.
I never wanted one until a few years ago.
They make so many now, it's hard to figure out which one I'd want.
I was at a collector's house and played a 68 Custom which was a piece of crap, and then a 78 Custom which was really nice. Both were black/black.
I really want a Goldtop so I may sell a few "lesser" guitars to fund it.
I just went through that with my acoustics. Sold a few mid range guitars to buy a Taylor.

I've played some real dogs too. I think a lot of it has to do with setup. A proper setup can really bring a dead guitar to life.

WAY too many LP models. I prefer the Customs. I love the bindings and the block inlays.

The 68 I played had dead frets, the bridge was all corroded, old strings. It was wall hanger with around 100 other guitars. He had a 53 Les Paul Gold Top but I was literally afraid to even touch it.
