Life is far too wondrous to waste any more than the bare sustainable minimum in a Sleep State...

Consciousness is the preferred and desired mental state to be in..

However the revenges of time, daily work stresses, and external environmental organic alcohol molecular intake via bottled, and sometimes cans, plays a part in erasing consciousness where a semi conscious state takes over.

The time frame measurement of such semi-consciousness is directly correlated to the alcohol molecular intake and or lack thereof.

The fact that in the pre-sunrise hours, post bars-n-clubs closing....
Time spent in an on-line forum is a strong indicator that normal sleep patterns and measurements escape my mental well being and decision making processes.

Sleep!

At 74 of course have a prostrate issue. (good for 1 to 2 get ups a night)

On top of that I have never been a deep sleeper. My nights are more of a series of cat naps. At my age I take a few script drugs, not sleeping pills my docs do not want me to use them!.

They say the older you get the less sleep you need well that sure appears to be true. A problem I have that has been discussed with a couple doctors is my brain (as small as it is) does not shut down fast or easily. Lying there with a brain on overdrive is a hard thing to work around.

Its coming but not quite yet. The biggest problem is shutting down the brain.

I take blood thinners, among a few other drugs and they (Docs) are holding off. To get surgery or serious dental work unless its urgently needed I have to get 4 doctors to sign off and readjust my meds.

I had a problem sleeping until I found a method that I have read was started by the Army. It is simple and involves 3 steps. Quietly breathe in for 4 seconds, hold breath for 7 seconds, and quietly breathe out for 8 seconds. It really works for me anytime I have trouble going to sleep or waking up during the night. You repeat for 4-5 times. Come back is a couple of weeks and tell us how you did.

No. Never have. Even did ambien for a while. It worked for a few months but then I got used to it. I do better now with a cpap.
