Of course, bulk erasure would be fine if that was the goal. But it wasn't. The goal was to make it look like they weren't trying to destroy evidence. When their goal was to destroy evidence.

It would have been trivial to just smash the drives with sledgehammers and dump the pieces into a sewer.

OR put it on an old reel-reel tape bulk eraser, used to wipe out audio tapes from generations ago.....I still have mine....it's 110 vold powered, and you can hear the buzz from across the road, and the drives/tapes/what EVER will be wiped totally clean in about one spin through.....so remove the drive from the computer, and wipe it......done.....

I know damn well I correct, and think it's funny that it is somehow some such deep dark secret that these modern computer guys dunno how to do that......

While you may be able to destroy one harddrive, in this day and age, the moment you hit 'send,' your data goes through so many servers and destination hard drives, you'd be hard pressed to delete every trace.

I mis spoke not wipe in/out along the edge, along the entire surface of the disc...........wipes out all the magnetics on the disc.....

Yeh, but once my drive is gone, no one in hell going to know where to look for the rest of it, as if anyone would care in the first place.....
