Minnesota Restaurant Posts ‘Muslims Get Out’ Sign

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A Minnesota restaurant owner upset over what happened in St. Cloud posted a controversial sign Monday morning.

The sign outside Treats Family Restaurant in Lonsdale, Minnesota, reads “Muslims Get Out.” A second line reads “In Support Of St. Cloud.”

Owner Dan Ruedinger says the sign has led to some backlash, but he says business is up so much that he had to call in three extra workers Monday.

“It’s time that people started standing up, not worrying about the PC crowd and do what is right,” Ruedinger said. “And I feel what we’re doing is right. We are not targeting the Muslims in general, just the extremists. And that’s all I can say. It’s my right and I’m going to stand up, and I wish more people would do it.”

Payten Estepp was part of a group protesting the sign Monday night.

“I get it, it’s his right to say what he wants to say,” Estepp said. “But that’s giving Lonsdale a bad rap to everyone that drives by on 19, which is a very busy road, so people are going to see that and they’re going to think Lonsdale as a whole, as a community, is as crass as that sign.”

Ruedinger says he has no plans to take down or change the sign.

I'm sure there are few federal and state Civil rights laws that he's breaking too.

It might have been more subtle if his sign pointed out that ALL meals are served with a sample of the pork recipe of the day, at no extra charge.

If he refuses them service because they are Muslims then he can and will get sued.

If he does not prevent them from coming in and ordering then he can say what he wants.

They can claim his sign does that, and I bet the courts would agree.


Folks are rightly concerned that this type of sentiment and display will throw us back to the days of segregation and anti-minority sentiment, lynchings and church burnings. So with that in mind, what the media is going do, is paint this guy as a Jim Crow racist and bigot. They have got him in their sights and they, along with the ACLU and every ultra liberal protest-group-for-hire will hunt him mercilessly. He doesn't have a chance.

What will be overlooked, scoffed at, and outright ignored, is that it's not the majority that are committing the crimes against the minority; it's the other way around. And that minorities community makes no effort to confront and condemn their own. This is not about race, it is mostly about religion. But more importantly it's about ideology. And ideology that is in conflict with ours, and our laws as well. It is that minority's intent to become the majority, and if they every do, they'll make the Jim Crow days look like a picnic.

A local hole in the wall Philly cheesesteak place I go to has a sign by the register; "We maintain the right to refuse service to anyone".

I think that covers things quite nicely.

There's a convenience store (of course) that I've gone to for years to rent movies and stuff, and over the last couple of years their business has dropped off to the point where they are thinking of putting it up for sale and moving home.....to Pakistan! Yep, the three partners are Muzzies, beards, wives in burkas the whole roll, all from the same village. Other businesses in the areas are doing fine.

What comes around goes around in the end.

I wouldn't visit a business with such a sign.

1. It's instantly a target for someone wanting to make a statement.
2. While it may be how I feel, if it is legal, then all businesses can then put all the crap they want to keep out. Here in Maryland, that would mean I'd have to go to south Virginia to buy anything.
