The restaurant business has always been a hard one. Profit margins are slim in the best of times. As the economy slides further into the shitter, look for more and more restaurants to shutter their doors. Fast food used to be cheap, but now it costs around ten bucks a person for a crappy burger, fries, and a Coke. With minimal service as well. You want to sit down and be waited on, you're looking at twenty-five per person and that's before you leave a tip. With grocery and gas prices rising fast, more and more people are going to be cooking at home to try to make ends meet.

We never eat dinner out. About once every two weeks, we'll do a "date day" and go into town and buy feed, hit the hardware store, the pool store, whatever, and then have lunch at a small Mexican place in town. Looks to be family owned and all the Sheriff's deputies eat there (which is usually a good sign). Lunch for two, after tip, is right around $35, which I consider to be reasonable as the food is pretty good and always consistent.

Went to McD's about a month ago: Big Mac, fries, and shake was around $13 with tax. Normally go to family-run places, lunches vary from $10-20 plus tax and tip.

Our favorite place, a small diner in a small town that's run by a woman (good food, very reasonable) great town folk, has closed on Friday nights and all day Monday because she can't find enough help. Hopefully that changes, but it's an ongoing problem everywhere.

I eat lunch out 5-6 days a week. Don't care about the price.

Restaurants, if run even barely competently, in my Orlando area can't lose.
Unless you give somebody hepatitis or E. Coli or charge 200% over other establishments you'll stay packed. Retirees can b!tch about fixed income, inflation, homeowners' insurance, etc. but when it comes to meals out in my region - they can't do it enough.

The restaurants and stores in my hometown of Oakland CA are closed and 'on strike' do to dash and runs, smashed windows, and outright robberies....both strong-arm and break and enter. This is due to the huge wave in crime due to wokeness, defunding of the police, and the Mayor forgetting to submit the application for Federal grants for money to hire law enforcement. Oakland missed out on 20-50 million dollars due to a "I don't give a ****'' Democrat Mayor. Nobody selling commercial properties there.
